How do you learn to hover?

As a newbie to Eflight and now the wonderful world of 3D, I'm wondering how one goes about learning how to hover.

Practice... It's all stick time.

That's for sure. Do you start at higher elevations in case things go awry, and can 3D be done without special mixing functions?

Ya, start up high enough to recover. You can 3D without mixing but the key is having a plane with low wing loading and a high power to weight ratio.

Hi raabid

See the article I wrote at www.bumpygreen.co.uk Go to reviews, click on 'Cougar - Flying Tips' and have a read. Its about how I learned to hover the Cougar, though its the same principle for all fun-flyers - you might find it works for you. Have fun!! :)

Ditto on the Practice

Lots of stick time on a plane that is "easy" to hover and you'll get there.

No special funtions or mixing.

A good set up on a simulator is a great help.

I use G2 and a couple airplane definitions that you can down load from various sites.

Morris the Knife is so easy to hover it's silly.

The kit will be lighter than the ARF, therefore easier to get out of trouble with a good .46 and pipe. My ARF with TT .46 Pro and MACs small pipe needs a little more umpf. If you get the ARF, spend plenty of time trial-fitting the servo rails before you commit to glue. It's a frustrating installation.

How do you learn to hover?

Hi,
I used G2 to get the orientation part sorted out (for torque rolls ...but the same applys to hovering). That took me along way...the rest is just practise up high till your confident...then gradualy bring it lower.

Theirs a good few articles out on horizon hobbies site.

Good Luck

p.s. if your like me you'll struggle for a while then one day it "clicks"!

Thanks, for the invite. I've just got started in all this stuff and am getting pretty good with my acrobatic electric slow flyer. I hope to move up to a brushless system on a small slow flying 3D plane.
Are you flying glow or electric? Either way your knowledge would be helpful, feel free to email me at [email protected], and we can get together. I'm actually in Willow Springs, so a quick ride down 42 and I'm there.
