.3d rate set up

Hi

Can people please advise how they configure their transmitters for 3d rates? Do you just use the dual rates (which means flicking 3 separate switches to change from normal to 3d) or do you mix it onto 1 switch? Also, do you tend to put lots of exponential into the 3d rates. As you can tell I am a beginner to 3d

<Silly computer posting before I have finished! Forgot to say thanks in advance

It's very much a personal preference thing - this is what works for me

I just use the dual rates but I don't follow what appears to be the generally accepted convention when setting them up. I have the high rates set with the switches towards me and low rates set with the switches away from me. That way, If I get into trouble and need to quickly flick back to low rates it is a simple finger movement without interrupting the pressure on the sticks. (It's what works for me and I've always done it that way).

I find that for first learning to 3d (and we never stop learning) it can help to just have one surface set to high rates (Eg just the elevator when learning a simple Harrier) and you still have gentle movements on the other surfaces.

I use around -60% (on a Hitec Tx) Expo for my 3d rates but I believe that it is common for people to go to around 80 - 85%.

I use three switches. I rarely change the rudder but the elev and aile I change all the time. For 3D I use high rate most of the time with a lot of expo. Like 50% on aile and 70% elev. I like to put a some precision in the routine. So if I do a rolling circle I want high rate elev and low rate aile. Most of the guys I fly with put all the mixes on one switch. I think my way is better but does take some getting used to. Also I put a short piece of fuel line on the elev and aile switch. This way I can find them with out looking.

I use the 3 flight modes switch on my JR 9303. I flip one switch and everything is already programmed in for that mode. One mode for take off and landing, the second mode for pattern and third mode for 3D.
