Rate Settings for 3D
I'm trying to set the rates on my radio for lots of 3D(I have the Futaba 6EXA and the two aileron servos are mixed for flaperons) I have all the recommended control arms and horns. I'm just not sure how to achieve maximum deflection... I have the D/R set at 100%(the top end limit) and I'm still not getting much deflection. Should I adjust the EPA? What is the best method for getting maximum deflection?
Thanks for your help Ben Dilley |
RE: Rate Settings for 3D
are you using long servo arms 1.25 or 1.5 inch?

RE: Rate Settings for 3D
What type of plane, what servos and what setup are you using with regard to linkages and horns?
Here's a checklist for you Make sure that the surfaces are actually free to move the amount you want Use Long Servo Arms Use sturdy pushrods and control horns Are the servos securely mounted Make sure you are not stalling the servos out Are the control horns located in the correct place. I have seen (and experienced some for myself) throws not being achieved for all of the above reasons. |
RE: Rate Settings for 3D
Max deflection:
Pushrod all the way out as far as you can get it from the output shaft on the servo. So, use 1" or 1.5" arms on the servo sna put the linkages all the way out on the farthest hole. Opposite on the control horn. The linkage needs to be hooked up to the hole closest to the control surface. That gives you max throw mechaincally. Now go into your endpoint adjustments and increase them untill the control surface stops moving. Watch the elevator while you increase the end points. It will move. When it stops moving, you either maxed out the radio or the linkage. Your done. Can't get no more out of that one. Find out which elevator moves the LEAST and match the other one to it. |
RE: Rate Settings for 3D
look at teh other suggestions and push up your EPA... that radio will do up to 120%

RE: Rate Settings for 3D
Thanks guys for all the help. I've got a foamy with HS55 for the elevator and ailerons and S75 for the rudder. The S75 has like a 3/4 arm on it and the HS55 have a 1/2 arm. The 6EXA will not go any higher on D/R then 100% and I have the EPA maxed at 120% Should I get longer servo arms because the one on the S75 allows for some pretty good rudder throw, or is there a way I can fix it through the radio. Thanks again

RE: Rate Settings for 3D
If your radio is maxed on the EPA, and your "out" on the servo arms and "in" on the control
surface end.. You will need longer servo arms to get more throws... But sometimes more is not better... |
