Would the peakmodel 26cc gas have the power for 3D on the extra at 5500'?

good deal what prop did u do your flight with?

RE: Peakmodel Extra 260 25%

My Extra 260 Setup:

peak 26cc gas engine- APC 17x6 prop 8400 rpm (1200' field altitude)
2 - futaba S3305 ailerons
1 - S3305 ruder (in the tail)
1 - S3305 elevator (in the tail)
2 - 6v 1300 nimh packs (ignition / RX)
1 - Futaba R319DPS receiver
1 - 10 oz dubro fuel tanke ( 14 minutes fly with 10 oz !!!)

It has caerbon fiber wing tube (standart) but has aluminum landing gear (would be lighter if carbon fiber), i am very pleased with the model, really neutral flying habits, no wing rock on high alfa, excelente precision and 3D plane.
I have not weighted the model yet, but my guess is around 8.5 lbs (3.9 kilos)

Looking good Jose. I like both of the colour schemes.

The peak website is a bit light on information so if you can post up your final weight and also wing area that would be great.

I took a look at the video of the new extra 260 on peaks website and the peak 26cc doesn't seem to have that much pullout with their setup. General flying looks good but pull out from hover looks kind of slow. How do you think the MVVS (Evolution) 1.6 would go in this bird? Looking at the engine specs on paper, the mvvs has more power for the same complete weight.

Cheers, fj

RE: Peakmodel Extra 260 25%

The peak 26cc engine is hovering the extra 260 about 50% trothle stick, but the pull out is slow, not rocket ship.

I prefered the APC 17x8 prop , it was turning 7800 on that (respectable in my opinion, my ys 140 sport turn the same prop 8400 top),
if you would like more reserve power go with the mvvs 26cc, it turns the same prop around 400 RPM more, that is a lot of diference in a hover pull out.

When using a smal 26cc gas engine, you must keep it light, use light battery packs, and smal fuel tank, my extra 260 has a 10oz fuel tank, and i can fly 13 minutes with a lot of reserve left.

Any idea on the wing area for this plane? I was looking at peak website and saw the Extra + 40cc combo for a reasonable price. I'd be interested in working out the wing loading for this combo?

Never mind, I just found the manual on peaks web site, wing area is 972 sq. in.

Now how do I calculate the wing loading?

RE: Peakmodel Extra 260 25%

I test flew the extra 260 with the peak 26cc engine, and the balance was achieved moving the RX battery pack the most in the rear of the fuselage i could, i think if you use a big/heavier engine you will have the add dead weight to the tail for balance.

This plane is well constructed and very very light, i would recomend you try it with the peak 26cc or oher good engine like the evolution 26cc, you will get excelente performance without sacrifice the balance and wing loading.

I just ordered one of these for my saito 150. Looks like a great plane. Looks to be the same plane that cermark is selling.

Now how do I calculate the wing loading?
Since you're wanting to find ounces per square foot, you need to figure out the plane's weight in ounces and the advertised wing area in square feet. I went with 9 lbs because it's very close to the weight listed in the original post and a round number. 9 lbs x 16 ozs = 144 ozs. Since the plane's wing area is given in sq. inches, you have to divide by sq. inches in order to find the number of sq. ft. 12 inches x 12 inches (which is 1 sq. ft.) = 144 square inches ... so ... 972 sq. inches / 144 sq. inches = 6.75 sq. ft. of wing area. To find the wingloading (ounces per square foot) ... 144 ozs. / 6.75 sq. ft. = 21.33 ozs per sq. ft.

RE: Peakmodel Extra 260 25%

I just found out that my new extra 260 is sitting at the local post ofice waiting for me to pick it up. I would have received it on saturday if i was home. So technically it would have only taken 5 days to get it. That is impressive! Hopefully it survived the long journy though.

Jose were there any issues with putting it together that you ran into? Was the hardware that comes with it good or did you just throw it out and use something else?

RE: Peakmodel Extra 260 25%

The hardware is good, i used all the hardware, only the fuel tank i went with a smaller 10oz tank.

You will love the 260, realy a beaty, flies like a dream.

Jose the manual does not give the spacing from the firewall to the thrust washer. What is your set at and what size spinner did you use? So far this plane is unbeleivable. Its strong but really light for its size. I have not even got to fly mine and i already love it.

As i sold the plane to a friend from another city, i can not measure for you now,. but i am posting some pictures of the en gine instalation.

I made some stands that were 1 1/2'' long.

The plane is wonderfull, you can not go wrong with it , best 25% airplane i have ever seen or flow.

RE: Peakmodel Extra 260 25%

I'm ready to take the pluge into my first gasser. This seems like a good first combo but I'm still confused about the following two issues:eek::

So what is the total ready-to-fly (dry) weight? The Egdg540/SPE26CC combo came out at 10.5lbs intead of the advertised 8.8lbs. I'm assuming the same is true for Extra260.

Also, what is the correct wing area? The website shows 1016 sq-in but "fjaust" found 972 sq-in in the manual. 8.8lbs at 1016sq-in works out to be 19.95oz/sq-in wingloading. 10.5lbs at 972sq-in works out to be 25.12oz/sq-in.

Any response will be much appreciated.

Tony

RE: Peakmodel Extra 260 25%

I did not weight the plane, but have flow it 20 fligths, and the wing loading is perfect with the peak 26 engine, total weight i estimate to be 8.8 lbs, the extra 260 is lighter than the edge 26cc, that i can tell you for sure.
I did not calculate the wing area, the plane is 70"wingspan, i have the QQ yak 72" that i paied a lot of money for it, and it is not half as good comparing to this extra 260, the extra 260 flights very light, total 3d and precision capable.

The plane is wonderfull, you can not go wrong with it , best 25% airplane i have ever seen or flow.

Jose:
How do you access the carburetor for priming?, since the peak 26 does not have choke. Can you reach it from inside, removing the canopy ?

Yes, removing the canopy i could prime the engine for the first flight of the day, than i had no need to prime the engine, it always started in the first flip.

In my 260 i used home made standoffs, these were shorter than the peak stands, doing this i managed the prop shaft to have small gap to the cowling, and the carburator enterede more inside the fuselage, making possible for me to put the finger in the carburator for choking (for the first flight of the day).

Hope this helps,

Jose.

Hi,

Do you think that a Saito 150 will really pull this plane with authority, for sport/F3A style flight?

Regards,

Mike
