You Can DO 3D preformance?
What are all the manuvers the ucando is capable of? Also how about a O.S. 91fx? Good engine and enough power for torque rolling?

Here's what I have done with a Saito 91, purchased used:
Hovering, Torque Roll Blenders Snaps, Spins Flat Spins (almost flat), Knife Edge Spins Pinwheels Elevators, Harriers (working on keeping the wing rocking down) Walls (good), Parachutes (incredible) The plane is a joy to fly and everyone at the club loves it. I have 3001 BB servos on everything but the rudder, which has a 90oz JR4735 servo. The OS 91 has good power, so if you can get it tuned properly you should have a lot of fun with it. |

OS 91 is a great combo for this plane.
Slow knife edge, stand it up into a torque roll, bring it down and PUNCH IT! and watch it zoooooom away. Play with some props. 14-4 and 13-6. Gee, I think I just wrote the same thing in another post. |

Ive seen Flyfalcons fly his, its awesome.
Goto my website below, then goto his for video's of it! |

YNOT, are you talking about the O.S. 91 two stroke?

A guy had one at last year's Internet Fly-In.

How about the O.S. 1.08 FSR? Weighs 26oz. Too heavy? Does the O.S. 91fx hover it with alot of pull out?

Saito 100 is killer... I'm going to get one tonight that was broke in shipping and try to fix it. If it's fixable I'm putting my Saito 120 in it. :)

Willy,
That plane has monster surfaces, and a monster wing, and a monster fuselage. It can support a myriad of engines, and weight really isnt too much of a concern. Just move the battery back a little bit, if not all the way to the tail. They are flying with OS61's, YS91's, OS91s, Saito 100, Saito 120, Saito 150, and I heard theres a Saito 180 powered UCD. There is also at least one powered with an RCS 1.4 gas engine. Engine choice seems to be either whatever you have on hand, or what you are willin to spend. Steve |

Well i have to say the ucando is an awsome plane. i havent flown one my self but there is a guy at my field that is the "young guy" who can fly quite well. he ripes the sky apart with one of these the things i have seen him do are incredible. the plane has a saito .91 and it has unlimited vertical. the inly prblem he had was with hinges he acidently put glue in them. but when he does fly he is incredible. the only thing that i notice is that flat spins arnt really level the tail since it is further out like a patter ship it lifts it slightly. but i would say it is a great plane.

Yeah, that's my UCD with the hinge problem. I used DuBro pinned hinges and have had a few break because I accidentally got glue in them. I'm replacing some of them now and using a different technique to attach them. Hopefully that'll help me out - I hate having to stop flying because of a broken hinge.
The nice thing about this plane is you don't need to spend a lot of money on servos. I've read of a lot of people spending over 300 bucks on digital servos, but mine has 3001 standards, with a 4735 coreless on the rudder. Keep it simple! |

Try some hinge glue. It is usually found at your local hobby shop. It doesen't matter if you get it in the hinge.

<<...hinge glue...>>
Yup; it will be right there on the shelf alongside the prop wash... |

Umm... Zap does make hinge glue.....

I have a saito 180 with a slimline pitts muffler laying around. Could I really use this heavy engine (52oz.) and not have to go blistering fast on landings?
|

Better to sell the engine and get a smaller one. This plane isn't stressed for a heavy engine like that.

Well I flew mine today with a Saito 120 and while it flew great it would be much better with the much lighter Saito 100. After flying it myself I say it's a very capable airplane that will be a joy to fly. Unfortunately the winds today were 25mph range so we weren't able to really test the 3D capabilities if the plane to the fullest but it was funny to see the wind push it in a hover down the runway at 25mph.
Fun airplane... as or the Saito 180 I say don't try it. |

I flew mine for the first time on Saturday
It is a great plane, easy to handle I have a Saito 100 on it The motor fits it very nicely and pulls it around really nice I wouldn't use any thing bigger. I had the same problem that WreckRman2 had, the wind was blewing very hard And like he said is was fun to see the wind push it around in a hover Thats my two cents Rcman84341 |
saito 1.20
i have a saito 1.20 in mine with digitals on ailerons and rudder.......elevators have standard bb jr servos.
The 1.20 just drags this plane around with a 16 x 6....never are you short on power....it will hover a lil under half throttle and will pull out a lil over half The 100 is prolly the perfect motor for this plane. Either that or the super charged ys .91 FIRST PAGE IN INSTRUCTION SAYS DO NOT POWER WITH 1.20 :0 The only problem i have seen so far is that it won't get that true flat spin.(gonna move cg back a lil and a lil more throw on elevators to see if that helps some).......and when it torque rolls......it don't roll and if it tries..it is really really slow......it will hover like a champ though....just don't roll that much. This plane is a blast to fly...many at my field has had some stick time on it.....and some offer to buy it. hope this helped some sean |

I've heard some people using 16x4w props with their saito 100's. The only complaint is the spool-up time is too great. What about the 15x4w? Has anyone tried that? Would the rpm's be too great for the 100?

I am just about to get mine flying with a Saito 1.00.
I will report what I find. I am sure it will be sweet combo. I flew WreckRmans the other day. Too noseheavy with the 1.20 on it. |

I use a 14x6 on my Saito 91 and am very happy with the results. Maybe the 100 would like a 15x6?

Well I maidened my UCD today and I gotta tell you it's one fun plane. It is the first plane I've ever flown that did not need a single click of trim. (honestly)
I'm no 3D expert by any means. That's why I got the UCD because it's a good plane to learn on. I was amazed at how much power the Saito 100 had. Pull it easily anywhere I wanted to go. I tried hovering a bit and it took 1 click over half way with a 15x6 Zinger Pro prop. My CG was set to 5 3/4" back and it will be moved back after I get more hours on the plane. I was taching 9400 and I ran it at 9200. The engine still needs broke in further. I have a 15x6 APC that I am waiting to use once I get my aluminum spinner. The cline regulator worked flawlessly throughout every flight, and the switch from a Hanger 9 superplug to the OS Type F plug was just what the engine wanted. I'd suggest that anyone running the plug that came with their Saito to get the Type F plug. The rudder is outragously powerful, but like everyone else said there was way too much coupling. I will try to mix some of that out the next time I get to the field. I'm not accomplished at doing harriers, elavators, and some of the other stuff, but I'll learn. Overall I'm really satisfied. And I'll like it even more when I become a better pilot. I know the club pres will want to try it out. Not sure if I should let him or else I'll never get it back :D |

Hey there, coomarlin -
I've got about the same set-up. Not sure which fuel you're using, but I was formerly running a 2/4 stroke synthetic that Wildcat produces for Hobbytown and loved it. I've run it for a long time on my Saito 72 (different plane), but I'm now running the Omega 30% Cool Power - Pink - in my UCD / Saito 100. Oh yeah... there's a difference! I definitely recommending it and your 100 will pull out of the hover even better! |
