Is this plane any good?
1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys, I need some info.
I'm looking at buying a "scale" 3d plane (I fly profiles and sticks), and need to know what the scoop is on the Graupner Extra 300. Hobby-Lobby has it for $220, and it's in the .60-.90 range that I'mlooking for. Here are the specs: Weight: 7 - 7.5 lbs Wing area: 639 sq. in. Wingspan: 63" Length: 46" If this plane isn't any good, what other Extra's are there on the market that are in the engine range. PLEASE NOTE: I would only like replys regarding planes in the .60-.90 range. Due to my income and hangar space, I can't handle any bigger. So if the only responses out there are for 50% IMAC's, please post elsewhere! Also, I am looking for an Extra. Either a 260, 300, or 330. I don't like yaks even though they fly beautifully. So please, stick to the parameters. Thank you very much. Any brands are welcome. Thanks:D |
RE: Is this plane any good?
Only other one that comes to mind is the Fliton 330 freestyle, which has a good reputation.Lots of reading in the threads.Fliton has some electrics, look for the 59+ inch version.
Looking at the pic, the Hobby lobby is a sport aerobat at best. |
RE: Is this plane any good?
II forgot to mention, I have built several kits, so "Some Assembly Required," is not a big deal. The only thing is that I've always heard that kits are heavier. Any merit? GP has some Extras, how are they?

RE: Is this plane any good?
There is the the Gene Soucy and the Patty Wagstaff, not really 3D birds and much too big.
I think the Fliton is going to take this size and performance contest. |
RE: Is this plane any good?
How much? (total $$$)

RE: Is this plane any good?
No idea..the Fliton cost about the same or less than the one you mentioned 220 or less.If you dont have a motor a 91 -100 4 stroke seems to be the choice or perhaps a 60-91 2 stroker.Servos could be kept to a standard if needed.
I dont have one of these but have a 91 OS 4 stroke needing a home and this plane keeps getting my attention.Just watching the treads gives great insight of what to expect. Its mostly positve inputs. This video sold me of what to do with my 91 and an Extra airframe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ul2_ZN8p5_w |
RE: Is this plane any good?
Does this fall into your parameters? I've not yet to get one this big but I hope to soon, hopefully this will be of some help to you. Good luck:::[link]http://www.peakmodel.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=366[/link]

RE: Is this plane any good?
Cool then. After watching the video, I'm sold. Thnks alot guys for the inpu and keeping in the size range. It's nice to get specific info instead of weeding for what you want! LOL. Look for a build thread coming this winter. If so desired, you can keep this thread gooing for more Extra talk, up to you!
Thanks!!! |
RE: Is this plane any good?
Fliton's extra is a great plane, you'll love to fly it. The graupner says 7-7.5 lbs.. My fliton came in at 6lbs. 9oz. dry, and that is considered a little heavy.
