UCD and Tower .75?

Anyone have experience with a UCD and Tower .75? Will it hover?

Before you laugh, I was shocked by the recent Model Airplane News article comparing the Tower .61 with all the others, including the .61FX. The Tower has way more torquge and hp, I don't have the numbers in front of me.

Horesepower per cubic inch shows the Tower .75 should equal a .91FX (all else being equal, which it's not).

Any thoughts?

The important thing is not horsepower, but how big of a prop can the 75 swing and at what rpm? I've seen a Tower engine go and it appears to be quite powerful for its size. However, for low speed maneuvering you want enough torque to swing a large thrust-generating prop.

If the Tower 75 is proportionally as strong as the .61, I'll bet the torque of the .75 is equal to a .91FX. The Mod Air News review was very interesting.

I'll go with a .91 2 stroke just to be safe. I was thinking 15x4.

Thanks.

UCD and Tower .75?

I have that exact setup. Tower .75/ UCD. I am waiting for decent weather so I can test fly the thing. I can post some RPM/prop numbers if you would like. I was breaking in the engine the other day and held the aircraft straight up, it had plenty of power to go straight up from my hand. I'll post something when I get a chance to fly it.

I suspect that you'll have a great combination. I am sorry to say that I chickened out and bought a .91XLS today :(

Let me know when you fly it.

Those Tower engines seem to pump out good power for their class. But it seems that people either swear by them or swear at them. To be honest I've never owned one. I have heard more good things about the tower mufflers than I have the engines. The number one complaint I've hard about tower engines concern the carb. Apparently they are notorious for having air leaks in the carb. They may have updated them in recent month's though. I'm not really sure.

My gut feeling is that the Tower 75 would fly the plane OK, but I don't believe it will be a great engine for hovering or other manuvers that require lots of torque.

UCD with OS 61RE

Was wondering what you guys think. I have several old pattern engines that put out substantial more power than todays 61 size engines. My dad and I ran one of our old OS 61 (rear exhaust long stroke) with fuel pump and tuned pipe 2 weeks ago and have decided to try it on a UCD. It turned a 12.5x11 APC at 11,000 rpms with instant throttle response. Does any one have any idea what size fun fly prop (14x4, 15x4) would be a good choice for tins engine. He has the OS Hanno Special that he is putting on his UCD now and it turns a 13x11 to 13x12 in the same rpm range. Also these engines have lots of torque with excellent trottle tansition. Do you quys think this will be a good combo?

I have been flying the UCD/Tower .75 for a few weeks now, the engine has plenty of power to pull out of a vertical hover and has unlimited vertical.

Since the tower .75 is under discussion here I would like to what you think about useing it on a pizazz.
on the 15th of next month I will be ordering one great price 99.00
unless this is "to much motor" for this plane. I am hopeing to swing a nice big prop with this.

The .75 is way too much engine for a pizazz. You will be much happier with a 46-.53 sized engine. By the way the pizazz is a fun little plane.

Luck

CGAV8R

Glad to hear the Tower .75 worked out for you. I went with the Magnum .91 XLS and it is also plenty for the UCD. Pulls strong out of a hover! Based on your experience, I will not hesitate to try a .75 next time.

Thanks for keeping us updated.
