Great Planes Sukhoi SU-31 3D 1.60

I just finished an RCU review on this GP sukhoi SU-31 3D but I was surprised that I could not find any threads on it here in the 3D forums. Does anyone have it yet or am I missing a thread somewhere? I am surprised, this is a really neat plane and it flies great. The only thing I really don't like about it is the one piece wing, but other than that is a great looking and flying plane and it actually 3D's well.

There are at least 2 other threads going. One guy has a 3.2 gasser in one. How did it balance with the 1.60 ?

Maybe GP should take notice and start producing planes at a size that fits the multitude of 50cc engines and appropriate gear available these days. While I think the Yak sold reasonably (not by GP standards), the CAP did not and this could be the reason...

They put together good planes and from what I saw on the 77" Yak, pretty well made. They are just short 10" in wingspan and 10cc in engine size ... :D

Ah, I did not look in the ARF forum.

I will say this for the record, the advertised weight is 13-14 pounds. With the OS 1.60 mine came out at about 12.5 pounds[8D]. Rarely do planes come out LESS than advertised without modification. Its flies light too.

To get it to balance all I had to do was use the instructions in the manual for the 1.60. Just put the battery pack on top of the motor box and go with the pull pull rudder and it balances spot on.

I used the 1.60FX because its what they wanted me to use, and it works fine and is way plenty power,,,, but its typical glow 2 stroke and takes a while to wind up so you really have to play the game with the throttle in a hover. I think it would be a good plane for the Brillelli 46. Its right on the order of the Extreme Flight 74" yak. That would allow you to use the push pull rudder servos in the tail and ditch the pull pull of which I am not a big fan on this particular plane. I did not care for the provided hardware for the pull pull using 2 servos. I would have rather used a Hitec 5985 or a 5955 and just have 1 servo for pull pull.

The reason that GP doesn't put out true 50cc planes is that they do not have a real good / light 50cc motor.

Has anyone installed the rudder servos in the aft section with a gas engine? How did the balance turn out? My GP Yak would be tail heavy with aft servos so I had to install them in mid-section using the pull-pull system.

I have one with a DA-50 and one tail mounted rudder servo. I should be ready to check balance this week. Got the motor on. Lacking: cowl, canopy, electronics
