Does CG Location Affect Elevator throws?
Can a CG to far forward require elevator throws to be larger than nornally required to acheive the same flight response of a more rearward CG. Did I say that right?

Does CG Location Affect Elevator throws?
YES!
Aft CG = Sensitive elevator Foreward CG = less sensitive Leonard |
Does CG Location Affect Elevator throws?
The more rearward CG requires LESS elevator throw. A nose heavy plane will require more elevator. AT low speeds especially a nose-heavy plane may seem to run out of elevator in order to flare for landing. A tail heavy plane can be sensitive on elevator. In an extreme case, when you give some up elevator it will continue to go up even after you neutralize. I had a tail-heavy Sig Wonder once that with a bump of up elevator would do an inside loop and with a bump of down elevator would do an outside loop.
Nose heavy planes tend to require more down elevator to maintain inverted flight. Tail heavy planes may fly inverted with no change in elevator. Tail heavy planes tend to snap roll quicker / easier. |
