i have posted this message but didn't had much replies.

how is this plane?
building?
flying?

how is he preforming 3d?

what engine should i use? (gas or nitro)?
what size and menufacturer are you recomending?

if you have anything to tell about him please do

thank you
roy

DA 50, I've heard that with this engine it preforms and flys like a 35%.

roy_fisher 04-19-2003 08:54 AM

engines

what about the zdz 50?

and moki 210?
isn't it too big for this plane?
and is this engine economic? because i think in those sizes i should put gas.
what do you think?

by the way the company recomends 1.2-1.8 or 24-35cc gas.
so why are peple using 50cc? isn't it too heavy?

thank you
roy

I would try to stick in a lighter glow engine. I guarantee that it will fly better if you have a light glow engine, (or a gas engine with similar weight).
You could use.
Saito 180.
Moki 180.
Moki 210.
Ys 140L/DZ.

I still say DA50, there is a guy at my field with the ZDZ 50 and it runs like crap, but it might just be his engine because I've flown planes with the 80 on it and they are a powerhouse. Gas engines will also be cheaper to feed.

I would not condem an engine unless its mine and I can prove it.

You cant condem an engine in someone elses plane. Was the ZDZ 50 timing right, fuel clean, carb adjusted???????
I have a ZDZ 50, it starts, runs, idle and transition to full power flawlessly. Weighing 3.37 lbs with ignition and cranking out 5.7 hp, swinging a 22X10 prop over 7000 RPM you tell me of a better 50cc engine.
This engine is going into a H9 Edge 540.

It might just be the bad engine of the group you know. I'm a DA guy. I have 100+ flights on my 100 and it hasn't hickuped, burboled or died.(sorry I'm a bad speller)

I am very much considering this plane. I sold my BME powered DP Extra a few weeks ago. If I do this one I will try the big MOKI 2.1 glow engine. I have the MOKI 1.8 on a SIG 300XS and it's sweet . Using this engine the plane should be light. I also feel that those MOKI's transition better than gas and seem like more appropriate power in this size plane.

DP EDGE & YS 140 DZ!

I CAN SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE, THE DP EDGE & THE YS DZ IS THE WAY TO GO. MINE WIEGHS 12 1/4 OZ - FLOATS LIKE A BUTTERFLY & ACCELERATES LIKE A BEE. I CAN PULL UP VERICAL STOP & HOVER THEN ACCELERATE OUT OF SITE. I HAVE HAD MOKI'S BEFORE, BGUT HE DZ IS MUCH MUCH LIGHTER, HAS SUPERIOR THROTTLE RESPONSE, AND IS MORE POWERFUL THAN THE MOKI 1.8. IT TURNS A BOLLY 19X8 9500 RPM & THE HEAVY APC 18X8 WIDE AT 8800 RPM & A MESJLICK 20X6 AT 8800RPM.

BY THE WAY I HAVE A SECOND YS DZ WITH JUST A FEW TANKS THROUGH IT SITTING ON THE SHELF LIKE NEW IN BOX FOR SALE. I NEED THE CASH FOR ANOTHER PROJECT, BUT I AM KEEPING THE ONE ON MY EDGE IT IS GREA!

YS 140DZ stronger than a Moki 180???? eeeshhh I am going to go look up some facts right now

I own the Moki 180 and I can assure you it is an extremely powerful engine.... its got more power than an OS 160FX. I just have a hard time believing the YS 140DZ is stronger than my Moki. On bigger engines the RPMS are lower, but that doesn't make them weaker. A 46fx does what? 10,000+RPMs... where a OS 160FX is around oh 7,000. My theory or whatever you may call it may not be relevant, but does anyone have both engines to compare with?

Shorty, you have to prop a Dingo around 8,000+ (or is it 9000 +), so don't be mislead about performance.

Yup.. i'll second that Ys is much better than Moki ... certainly in reliability ... it never faulters or has problems starting.

If moki were better, F3A would adopt them. What you do have to consider though is that YS figures use high nitro and moki figures use little or none.

I own two YSs, the 63 and 1.40 .... it's the way to go!

For the Edge.. i'd havea look at the 3M 170.. however, i think it needs a pipe so it may be unsuitable.

Here's my two cents.

First, I have the following engines: YS53, YS63, YS120FZ, YS140L,Moki 1.8, Moki 2.1

The YS engines of mine have been very easy to tune and break-in. The Moki's have taken a lot of break in, but are now very strong and reliable. However, I do run a cline pressure fuel delivery system with them. The YSs have this type of system built in along with supercharging.

As for power the Moki 180 is much stronger than my YS140. My YS140 delivers the most thrust when proped with a 17x8 ( I believe it turned at around 8800rpm) My Moki will turn a 18x8 Moki wood prop at 9000).

A lot of the pros use the Moki for scale applications, such as Top Gun.

Both engines have excellent throttle transition and reliability - if properly cared for.

FWIW.

ys-dz - mrc

THE YS 140 I REFER TO IS THE DZ WHICH IS MORE POWERFUL THAN THE 140 L. FOR INSTANCE MY DZ IS STILL FAIRLY NEW & GETTING STRONGER. I TACHED IT YESTERDAY AND IT WAS TURNING AN APC 18X8 WIDE BLADE 8900RPM. YOU ALSO HAVE TO CONSIDER THAT THE DZ IS MUCH LIGHTER THAN THE MOKI AND HAS MORE USABLE POWER 7 TORQUE IN THE MIDRANGE WHERE MOST OF US NEED IT. LIKE I SAID BEFORE I HAVE OWNED THE MOKI 1.8 AND IT IS OK, BUT THE YS DZ BEATS IT HANDS DOWN IN HANDLING & USABLE POWER.

Shortman 04-28-2003 02:33 AM

Moki 180 $279.99.... YS 140DZ $680.00

The reason why Moki 180s arn't used in F3A is partly due to the fact pattern birds are designed around and for the YS line of engines. There also lighter than the Moki. The Moki 180 however is a stump puller and used more often in giant scale 1/4 planes for 3d aerobatics.

Earl..
are you using 30% nitro in the DZ. ? what fuel?
