YS 110 needs a home
Hey gang,
Been flying a Katana V2 for a year, had a OMP edge before that (died due to dead battery). But I have a YS 110 that has just been sitting for 2 1/2 years, real shame. I'd appreciate some suggestions as to what ARF 3D planes would be a good/fun fit. thanks! DT |
RE: YS 110 needs a home
I got a home for it! :) A NIB OMP Fusion 90. Send it on and I'll take good care of her. :D

RE: YS 110 needs a home
The Funtana X100 or Showtime do real well with it,depends it you want full fuse or profile.
|
RE: YS 110 needs a home
Can't beat the OMP yak 55 for all out 3d performance
|
RE: YS 110 needs a home
Erik, the idea here is that I get a plane so I can use the motor, but I do appreciate the offer. :D
OMP Yak was my first choice, but I think I'd like the look of a full fuse. Strange that the Yak costs more than the funtana. I know there is about a pound of weight difference, but with the 110 would it hurt the performance that much? thanks again. |
RE: YS 110 needs a home
DT:
Based on very bad experience with the mini-funtanna, I would go with the Yak and additional bucks, even if thay gave it to me. Only so much room in the trash can. To be fair, I have only flown the larger funtanna, not owned one. Skiddish, prone to snap, simply not solid in flight, something I have come to require. Yes, some airframes like the QQ 73" Yak 54 spoils you, but I'm spoiled and will stay that way. Life is flat too short to waste!! There is exceptional stuff out there, our fourms help along the way to get rid of the trash. ENJOY |
RE: YS 110 needs a home
The 50 had some issues
The X100 is simply one of the best and funnest full fuse 3D aircraft on the market for 200 $ No doubt whatsoever. The X100 is super stable, responsive, floaty, agile, never snaps or does the unexpected. It performs the inputs that you can give it. it is a confidence builder for the new and experienced. It flies great out of the box and needs very little mods to make it last a few seasons. A few extra steps in set up will pay off with a huge smile on maiden.I have had over 60 aircraft in 20 years. The Funtana is still one of the best value for performance, and is a joy to fly anytime. There are some other aircraft that I havent owned that probably rank as good or better for this engine size, but I dont give the X100 any bad marks. |
RE: YS 110 needs a home
DT,
One thing to think about. Depending on how long you keep a plane some of the profile planes don't take a Y.S. 1.10 at idle very well. I guess if you never throttle back it would be ok, but the nice slow idle will literally tear up the front of the plane. think it has to do with the higher effective compression. Just my .02 Mike, |
RE: YS 110 needs a home
It's not so much how long I keep a plane, it's how long it keeps me before leaving in a pile of splinters. I do have a hyde soft mount, would that help with the vibration? Funtana 100 is looking good so far.

RE: YS 110 needs a home
I'd also suggest the Fliton 60 inch Extra, but the 110 is a bit much, its probably ok weight wise, but the thrust will probably take its toll.

RE: YS 110 needs a home
Also
Aeroworks Edge 540 60 inch Aeroworks Yak 54 120 size Goldberg Edge or Yak Ucando 60 H9 Frenzy 100 H9 Showtime 90 Wildhare Edge and Extra, There is some stuff at Peakmodels and Nitroplanes you can browese through also.. |
RE: YS 110 needs a home
I have a seagull edge 540 with that same engine....good combo!
|
RE: YS 110 needs a home
I recently read a review on the Frenzy, sounded pretty good (Model Airplane News, I think). The Funtana is a bit bigger, and is still my top choice. Nitro Models has some nice stuff, but I read quite a few bad reviews on the quality. I'd like something I'm not worried will fall apart in the air - if only World Models was into the 3D thing. I'd much rather spend some extra money and get a plane I won't be replacing for awhile, which is why I'm here. RCU is all about people sharing their knowledge and experience, so I'm bound to get great advice and end up with the perfect model!

RE: YS 110 needs a home
The hyde mount will not work on the OMP yak as the motor mounts directly to wood rails. What some people did with great success on the fusion with a YS 110 was drill a small hole in the nose of the plane and fill it with gorrilla glue. It did not add much weight and seemed to keep everything together.

RE: YS 110 needs a home
I am sure you have read the large thread on the X100.It covers everything.I think some used the YS110 and said it was a very good high performance match.

RE: YS 110 needs a home
Let me jump into this discussion because I too am looking for a home for my YS110. I had it on a U-CAN-DO 60 and was a perfect match. More power than I needed but if I did it was there. I'm drooling over the Aeroworks YAK 54 .90-1.20. however most of the threads I've been reading about it have been putting on Saito 160's and 180's. The YAK wt. is 9.50 lbs and the U-CAN-DO's wt. is 7.75....not that much difference based on the overwhelming excess power I had on the ucando. Nerver the less, these guys talking 160's and 180's are giving me great pause in investing in a plane that may be a marginal preformer with a YS110 on it. ............I NEED SOME GOOD FEED BACK FROM THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE MUCH MORE KNOWLEDGABLE ON THE SUBJECT THAN I!!!! Looking forward to you comments. Thanks Jerry H

RE: YS 110 needs a home
I am putting a new YS1.10 on my new Frenzy100
Should be airborne in two weeks or so. If you're interested - I'll be happy to inform regardibng the quality of this match Yaron |
RE: YS 110 needs a home
yaron k.....Yes, keep me posted on your progress. The Frenzy is much the same plane as the U-CAN-Do 60. Over a 1000 sq. in. of wing area and weighs just a 1/4 lb less then the ucando. You're going to have ample power but watch the speed and aleron flutter. Seal the space between the control surfaces and wing from below with a clear tape to help prevent the flutter. Good luck. RE: YS 110 needs a home
I have my YS 1.10 on a Mojo 60. It is my favorite plane,,,, an absolute blast to fly.. And the new Moass Mojo 60 is the perfect plane for the 1.10. Its got a little more wing area and tail moment than the original Mojo60 but its just an upgrade to the original kit.

RE: YS 110 needs a home
:)I have 5 YS 110. It is my favorite glow engine. It's a powerhorse and will easily pull as hard as a Saito 150. The higher elevation the stronger the mighty 110 is. This is do, in part, to the "supercharging" effect on the YS engines. You simply don't lose as much power as you do a normally aspirated engine when you move up in elevation. I'm at 4800' elevation. I need power.
In my opinion any plane up to 9 lbs is a great combo for the YS 110. It will hover and have excellent pull out up to 9lbs. Over that you might want for more. Less than that.....all smiles. The best combo and best flying plane in this class is the Velox by Maxair. But I think they are closing their doors so it might not be available. www.maxairrc.com I think they are running a firesale of $120 each or two for $200. It is a great flying airplane. Again...I believe it is the best in class. It will do a perfect KE with zero coupling. My planes with YS 110 are or have been... Velox (best there is if you want to fly) UCD60 (what a great, fun to fly combo. One of my favorites of all time) (I've had 4 different planes of this combo) Showtime90 4D (snap, snap, snap) Funtana 90 (I did not like this combo) Ultra Stick 120 Lite (super fun...the "Jeep" of airplanes) OMP Fusion 90 size (this is a profile plane. Weighs about the same as the UCD and flys the same except it is better at KE) Extreme Flight Yak 90 size (no comment) Sig Mayhem (the lightest of the bunch with a weight of 7lbs 0ozs) H9 Harrier 90 size (very similar to UCD but very hard to see in flight) That's all I can think of right now. There may have been a few more. Anyways, you'll have fun with this engine...if you can get it tuned right. Ahhhhhhhhh YS....you love them till you don't. Thanks BArry |
RE: YS 110 needs a home
Wow, the Velox is amazing, never heard of it before. And the price 2 for $200, how could a guy go wrong there? I think I might be sold on this one. Was about to get a Funtana, but I always like to have something different from everyone else.
thanks! |
RE: YS 110 needs a home
Just emailed about the Velox............I was willing to put out $379.00 for the Areoworks Yak 54 but this Velox is looks real tempting for the price. I can make lots of mistakes on half the money with 2 Veloxs Jerry

RE: YS 110 needs a home
My thoughts exactly. I did the same, hope to hear they still have some. How is the build on this plane? Does it need any extra mods to handle the 110 - motor mount, radio placement, etc?
|
RE: YS 110 needs a home
Okay, just got an email back. They don't have many left but the shipping is insane! FedEx claimed it would be $85 to ship one plane, and $90 to ship two - yikes. Anyone know anything about this?
Think I'll get an online quote from FedEx and UPS. |
RE: YS 110 needs a home
Hmmm, here's my findings. FedEx is 84.09 and UPS is 120.00 Dang, I'd like to get one of these.
