Carden EDGE with BME 102?
My Carden 35% EDGE is getting close to needing an engine. My question is will a BME 102 work for this plane? 'i know it is a much lighter engine than a DA or 3W, but with my rudder servos up in the radio compartment rather than in the tail will it balance out? I could also move the battery packs as far up as they will go.
I haven't heard much about a BME 102 on a Carden, that is why I raise this question. Is it a good setup? Is it a good engine? Is it powerful? Is it reliable? Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Eric |

Eric, BME has replaced the 102 with the Extreme 110. Quite a bit more power and is now most likely the most powerful and certainly the lightest in the class. Check out the BME web page for details.

The BME is a good engine and it is light.. but what exactly does that light engine get you if you have to then add more weight to the nose to balance it?
I'd go with a DA-100 myself. -Doug |
Carden EDGE with BME 102?
I agree with Doug. I have a BME, and while I can say it has adequate power, it lacks the smoothness, refinement and brute strength of the DA for the same money. Even if you have to add tail weight, its worth it. The BME 110 does indeed look promising, but the last I heard they wont be available until June (?) and I havent seen one yet.

I've got both the BME and DA. Go with the DA... you won't be sorry!

3w 106
Might want to take a close look at the 106 since the edge is one of the larger 35% planes around. Lots of power and incredible throttle response. DA is a great motor but with 3W's new carb block and ignition, the 106 SMOKES!

I think we've reached a point where it is pointless to make engines significantly lighter since it is becoming increasingly difficult to lighten the airframes to compensate. Just my thoughts. |
Carden EDGE with BME 102?
First off the Carden 35% Edge was designed around the DA100. Second it was designed to have the rudder servos on a pull pull system in the fuse right underneath the canopy. Mine balanced out right were the plans call with no additional weight anywhere. The rudder servos are under the canopy and it has a DA 100 on the front. On of my flying buddys has the same setup except his has the 3-W 106. He needed some nose weight to balance out the difference between the 3-W and DA. If you get a BME it will take at least 1 1/2 lbs to balance it out. And they shake like paint mixers. BME makes its power with RPM. DA and 3-W do it with torque. Torque is everything when you have zero airspeed and no altitude. Just get the DA and you won't regret it.
