Torque Rolling

Hi Guys,

I can TR for hours on RF G2 without any problems. I do this however without the use of ailerons but I see in almost all videos and real time TRing ailerons are used. I would like to try TRing this summer, do you have to use ailerons for TRing the real models? Does it depend on the model and is only used to get it to start TRing?

Thanks

Hey

It depends on the aircraft.

Some planes require a little bit of aileron to get it going , like fun fly's for example. My Top Cap wont torque roll unless I give it aileron , it will just hover.

Larger high torque gas engines seem to be more willing to torque roll.

My Sukhoi torque's on its own , As soon as I pop it into a hover it starts to torque roll.

It all depends on the plane , the motor , thrust , etc.

Thanks Josh,

I dont think I will have to put in a lot of aileron then as I will be flying a H9 Edge 540 with a ZDZ 50 swinging a 22X10 prop.
Got the plane to come in around 13.5 lbs after some mods.

Thanks

Most planes dont need any Aileron to TR.

I have found that the plane needs to be slightly on its back to start spinning. Usually somewhere a little past true vertical.

If you tip the nose forward it prevents torque rolling , as for tipping it back helping torque rolling I dont know , Ive never had a problem getting a plane to Torque roll completely verticle , and it looks cleaner.

I guess what I meant is that most people see vertical as something actaully less than true vertical. Resulting in just a hover.
So, if they think the nose needs to be back more that will usually get them into the sweet spot.

Thanks Wayne and josh for the reply. It does seem to torque this way, even with G2

My Carden with a DA100 has so much tork i have to hold right alieron in it or it gets going to fast and makes you crap your pants when you're 3ft off the ground

Yeah i know what you mean...I have a 3w 100 Cactus Special swinging a 28x10 Menz Like its nothing and when I try to bring it down in a torque roll it starts spinning like CRAZY , were talking Snap roll.

A little advice on G2. I got where I could torque roll all day on G2 and it didn't translate to torque rolling at the field. I went back to G2 and added wind and got used to TRing with wind on G2, thereafter I was able to TR at the field.

The other two things that can help are gobs of power and a tail heavy airplane.

I'm flying a 33% Aeroworks Extra (104") with a DA-100. No aileron input necessary.

:)
