H-9 Showtime .50 engine?
Hi guys
I am about to get a new engine for my showtime (2 or 3 weeks) and i was going for a O.S. 91 Surpass engine but with the new price I just don´t see any reason to get it when i can get a bigger engine for less or the same price and I want to know what Saito engine will be the best for this plane I was thinking in 3 engines the Saito 91, 100 and the new 115 if my dad let me spend $310 for a new engine (was planing on spending 250) I would really like to have de 115 as it weight a bit less than the O.S. 91 but i don´t know if it is going to be to much engine for the plane Almost forget it, what prop will be the best for each engine on 15% nitro, I have to switch between props on winter and summer because it gets to hot for a low pitched prop here so what props will work for each engine (just to give an example on my O.S. 70 surpass i switch from a 14X4 to a 14X6) Thanks for the replys guys Sergio |

I have a Satio 91 on my Showtime 50. This engine is wider than the 82 and the stock engine mount proved to be too flexible for the larger/wider engine, so I used a Dave Brown FS 90 engine mount instead. I am using an APC 14x7 prop which turns a rich 9300-9500 RPM on 15% Omega. At 5000 ft. altitude this engine has good power for conventional aerobatics but it is not over powered.

I know that a will need a new mount I will be using a great planes adjustable mount thats not really a big problem is not the first time i put a bigger than the recomended size engine in a plane(I build planes for a friend) but thanks for the advice. I see that you are at a high altitud but I am nearly at sea level (100 or 150 meters) so i don't think i need as much power as you to 3D but I want to have a better performance than my actual 3D bird buecause it is to heavy (2 small hits and 1 hard crash) so i don't have the performance I like to go DOD so i want more power in the Showtime to have enough pull out to feel comfortable when i am doing low hovers, hariers, etc. Do you guys think I am going to big with a Saito 115? or should I stay with a 100? |

go for either the 110 or 115, more so the 115. as you know the more power the better for 3D stuff.

I was thinking exact the same thing XD thanks freeair now I just hope my dad lets me spend the $310 for the 115 because I really want that engine for my plane but i was afraid it was to big but I think the plane can handle the power (will reinforce it just for safety)

Guys, you're making a mistake putting anything bigger than the Saito .82 in the Showtime 50, that is 50........5.......0........five........zero....... ,
not to be confused with the 90.......9........0..........nine..........zero... ....., The man who designed the Showtime 50 says the largest engine used should no bigger than an .82, yet all you here are going to bigger engines. I think it's a weight issue, but the firewall may not handle the extra torque of a 1.00 or 1.10 Saito. I'm going with Mike's recommendation and buying a Saito .82, good luck with your forward CG and heavy motors and weakened firewalls and broken landing gears.:D From the man himself: "What you want to avoid is adding weight to get more power." |

Running a Saito 82 on mine. More than enough power for 3D, Hovers at less than 1/3 throttle with strong pull out. Anything bigger just adds weight.

Yes a Saito 82 would be more than enough at sea level. If you fly at 5000' altitude like we do in Denver, you have to install larger engines because of the power loss at altitude. The Saito 91 on my Showtime 50 provides adequate power for most aerobatics, but it is not overpowerd. I suspect it would be marginal for 3D at this altitude.

i have a saito 91 with a 15x4 apc, it turns about 9400 with 10% its definitely enough power, but not enough pullout power as i would like....

Thanks for those advices guys but i have enough experience putting bigger engines on other planes with little to no problems flying them, I know it is going to be weight added but the main problem with the saito 82 is that i will need to use 30% of nitro to get the power i want and I just don´t dont want to spend so much on gas that´s why i am looking at a bigger engine on this plane, I am going with a saito 91 or 100 as the 115 will really be to much, a guy on my field is already running one and it will be just to much for the airframe I will buy it anyway but for a bigger plane not this one, I am at sea level but it gets to hot somethimes and I need to switch between props in summer and winter going from a low pitch in winter to a higher pitch in summer (14X4 to 14X6 on my O.S. 70 Surpass just to give an example) that solves the problem but i want more power I want bether performance I know what a saito 82 can do i've seen it and I am sure it wont give me what i am looking to get with 15% of nitro even with 30% i don't think that I will be satisfied at all

Im running a Saito 91 on my showtime 50...I couldnt imagine running the 82. I would think the 82 would power it enough for simple sport flying...if that! I like the 91...im just trying to figure out the right prop. I might say....MAYBE try the 100....but not more than that. The 91 is nice...but not getting 3d Power....just under enough for full on 3D....but very much good enough for this plane.

make sure you keep your prop selections at the right sizes, running a 14 x 6 on the 70 fs is too big for this little engine.

Hi all, newbie to the forums here. I've got a Showtime 50 sittn' in my basement in the box and an MDS .68 two stroke also sittn' in the box. Could I pair these two up? The largest the manual recommends is a .52 two stroke. Would the MDS .68 allow it to be a full 3D hovering machine with the right prop? This is my fifth airplane so I'm looking to go a little radical. This engine puts out 2.21HP at 18oz. w/out muffler. Also would anyone recommend at Jett engineering exhaust for this engine?

i had a 61fx with a pitts muffler, all i had to do was use a bigger mount and rotate it till it was sideways. so i dont see why not.... at one point i even had a super tigre 90 but i didnt like the look of the stock muffler,
