U-can-do falling right from hover problem.
Guys,
I have a U-Can-Do .46. I slapped a OS .91 Sourpuss II on there and it's running great. The plane tracks straight as an Arrow, punches out of Hover easily etc.. CG is about 5" with no weight added. AUW is 6 pound 6 Ounces. The problem is that when I hover I can keep it there but it's always fighting to tilt right. I keep it there as long as I can but it still always falls out in that direction. I'm a noob to this 3D lark, hence why I bought this particular model but how can I remedy this problem? Is it simply a matter of adding a bit of weight to the left side to balance it laterally? If that is the case where is the best place to add weight and are we talking about half an ounce here or would it need more? Thanks guys. |
RE: U-can-do falling right from hover problem.
You need to check the right thrust. try flying direct away from you and then pull vertical and keep climbing without touching rudder and see what the plane does. If it pulls left, you need more right thrust in the engine. If it pulls right, then you need less. Once you get this adjusted, then re-evaluate how it reacts in a hover. An improperly balanced (total balance) plane will be a handful to 3D and especially hover.

The Surpass is probably producing more torque/pull than the .46 which the plane was designed for.
This affects how much right thrust is needed ( less in your case ) causing what you are seeing. |

shim the engine mount back a little so right thrust is reduced.

Do the easiest check first, lateral balance from the center point of the fuse fire wall. If its off, correct it then fly again to see the results. Usually planes pull to the left because(in hovers & verticals)of thrust, so adding right thrust helps. It could have too much right thrust and this can be checked by doing what was mentioned above, pull a straight up vertical with power on & take your hands off the sticks for a second, you will see which way it pulls.

Buy a Mojo MoAss http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pKU1LFvlMM
Keep burning fuel;) If it falls out right hold left rudder, It's not the best plane for 3d and kinda hard to stay ahead of but they all will want to fall out one way or the other, it's up to your thumbs to stop that before it happens. |
