My hover blows away in wind

I'm flying 40 sized profiles - a Burrito and a Mojo. I can hover quite well on a very calm day. I can keep it in the hover at a more or less constant altitude for as long as I want. But if there is any wind at all my aircraft will blow away with the wind. I have tried aligning the wings with the direction of the wind and also leaning the airplane into the wind, but still it will blow away.

So what am I doing wrong? How do you all compensate for wind? There are very few windless days in this part of the country.

You are doing nothing wrong, wind is the great equalizer when it comes to aircraft, even my 40+% planes get blown with the wind. But on the little profiles you do not have any weight and have to play with it a lot more to get it to hold in one place and it sounds like you have the principal down, it just takes practice with the wind and finding the perfect angle to get it to hold its own. Also remember a light wind to you is a hurricane to a 8lb profile, they need more finesse, practice keeping it in a normal torque roll and letting the wind blow it down the runway. after that practice letting the wind blow you backward down it and flying it back to you, that will help you find the angle to hold it in one place.

I just point the nose into the wind a touch. It's kind of like a harrier with no ground speed, if that makes any sense. It works in all attitudes. I've gotten my foamy to hover at like 30* from vertical :D. It's just a matter of pointing the nose in the wind and balancing it.

Until you get it down, fly the plane really far upwind and let it get blown downind. If the wind is right down the runway, you can hover the whole way down the runway. TR's are cool when you let it drift. Have you every seen the video of Quique Somenzini flying a 46% Ultimate in the wind at the largest little air show? Awesome!

learn to do rollers. Then you can stay in one place. The trick is adapting to turbulence though that takes reaction beyond the usual torque rolling skills.

Thanks for the advice and the encouragement. I'll be working on it.
