3 position switch

I have a Futaba 9c super that has more bells and whistles than I think I need. With all the features it has I thought maybe I could use some of them for setting up flap/spoilerons on some of my 3D planes.

What I'd like to do is set up a 3 position switch for:
1: flaperon (down pos)
2: normal (middle pos)
3: spoilerons (up position)

Is this possible ? I've tried reading the manual but for some reason it seems like another language to me.

Thanks for the help,
John

RE: 3 position switch

I would have to look closer at mine to see if it had 4 free mixes. It would take four to do this.
mix 1: ELEV to FLAP using switch in down position
mix 2: ELEV to AILE using switch in down position
mix 3: ELEV to FLAP using switch in up position
mix 4: ELEV to AILE using switch in up position.
You would have to set your % to + for one pair and - for the other depending on how your set up was. I use one of my mixes for the ELEV servos so I don't have enough mixes to try it but I can't see why it would not work. Before you mess with it do this. Copy your model over to another model # and change the name a little. Like if you model is EXTRA300. After you copy change the copies name to TEST300. This way you can tinker all you want without messing up your original model program.

RE: 3 position switch

Thanks for the reply Dave...I appreciate it.

I've been able to setup the basic 4 channels on this radio. Most of my planes have a servo for each aileron and I'm able to setup flaperons. Under the heading Flaperon-Trim if its set to INH the dial VR(A) controls the flaperons/spoilerons. Thats why I thought maybe I could use a 3 pos. switch with the endpoints preset.

I find the dial hard to use when I'm low and going into a harrier and need spoilerons and even more difficult to find the neutral spot on the dial when I want to go back to normal flying.

I understand the idea of 4 mixes but I'm going to need a little help as far as all the master/slave stuff and the percents are concerned.

Thanks again,
John

RE: 3 position switch

John I use a spoileron mix for 3D. If your simply wanting a fast way to turn it on/off, I use the trainer switch. I can let go of the switch at anytime to release the mix. This won't work for both the spoiler and flap mix but will for one or the other. Are you sure what you want is a mix? It sounds like you want the spoilerons to come down to a set position and stay there. I mix will not do this like a knob. With a mix the ailes will deflect up a percentage of what the elev movement is. My way works good for harriers but is a direct link to your elev throw. The problem with end points is when the elev is neutral your alies will also be neutral. This does not matter in a harrier as your holding elev all the time but it may effect your flaps if your wanting to land with them.
If you want to set yours up like I mentioned in the first post I can talk you through it. Or if you want to try it on the trainer switch we can do that. The setup is really the same it is only assigning a different switch.

David,

What I'm looking for is not a mix but more to the point of having a set amount of flaperons with the switch in the down position ... a set amount of spoilerons with the switch in the up position... and everything normal with the switch in the center position.

Thanks for the help,
John

RE: 3 position switch

I don't have my radio with me but I believe that if that if you have you Ail on ch 1 and 6, in the first menu set your aux switch for ch 6 to the three position switch and in the second menu set the flapperon option on and give it a percent. Flip the switch to see if they move. I will check when I get home but I do know you have to do two setup items, one in each menu section. I use it on all of my 50cc aerobats so I can use spoilers to assist in landing as they like to float.

RE: 3 position switch

Thanks Cobra,

That was what I was missing. I assigned AUX CHANNEL 6 to the switch I wanted to use and then went to FLAPERON-TRIM and set the % I wanted and low and behold it works!!!

Thank You,

its a great radio to have very versatile but the manula for the radio is one of the worst I have ever seen. the only instruction in model airplanes that I have seen that is worse is for a ys engine
