RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I have my Can-Do ready to test. Haven't weighed in yet but using a Saito 100 and BB standard servos on 5 cells. Balances around 5" with the battery under the tank.
Test run the engine a while ago and one word will describe the 100 on this air frame...MEAN!!! |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I didnt find the damage untill i pulled the covering off. Just picked it up at the LHS yesterday, If the UCD was offered as a kit or ARC i would have bought that, but for the price its still worth buying and re-covering to my liking, i wasnt going for the Mcdonalds color theme, i could also shave some weight by using lighter/transparent covering and getting rid of most of the 2 and 3 layers of monokote that it had on it. This is my first ARF and i just cant leave it well enough alone......

Nothing wrong with perfection !
I would like to see the new and improved UCD when you are done. I'm sure it will look great... Regards jef |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I installed an OS 70 Surpass II with a 13X4W prop. The plane will hover but with the existing engine it lacks authority. The vertical climb could be much better. So, I've decided to get a Saito 100 based upon the posts I've read here at RCU.
For those of you who fly the plane with the Saito 100 what prop are you using? Regards, Scooterpilot |

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I had the first flight on mine today... Total wing failure!!!!
I'm going to look into it more tomorrow. I think the servo mounts on the right wing let go. All four screws were in the servo, but the closest rib was shattered. the wing half landed on top of the beans, so no damage from ground impact. The wing separated at this location. I was coming out of a left hand turn, level, when it came apart. I was at half power. The saddest part is the innocent dead ant that I found on the saito 91. He didn't know what hit him! Has anyone else had this happen? Thanks, Scott |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I gotta tell ya, I was thinking about getting one of these but after reading the post here i will pass.
Thanks rcu. Saved me once again. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
ya i dont understand why this thread would make you not buy one. every plane has questionable aspects, and possible improvements, and the ones for the ucd are quite mild compared to most. Any plane you get a review of will have some negative feedack from someone. what mostly turned you away from this plane? compared to others?

Heavy, Why else would you put a Satio 100 in a .40 size plane. Wont balance with rec eng, purpose for said eng or dead wieght. Fragile, Most get theres and the wing is broke or they are afraid of picking it up in fear of breaking somthing. Coupling in K.E. Hard to harrier and flat spin. Hovers easy but theres a whole lot more to 3D than hovering. If the plane was not fragile and came in at the wieght the box say's ( so i can use my 46fx ) then i would have one but, after reading this thread i dont think that is possible. |

What good 3D plane is not fragile. I would not expect it any other way. I have flown my 46 UCAN more then 25 times now, still like new. You just have to re-enforce the landing gear as with 90% of all RC planes. Since the plane lands with less then 5-10 feet of ground roll, i believe it could even be built lighter. Hard to harrier? Nah ... hit the spoilerons ... instant harrier. As far as 3D. Graceful, nimble, forgiving and responsive. Forgiving is deadstick in hover between 10 and 15' and still recover no prob. Coupling in knife edge, yip, skill and practice overcome that. Get it, try it. Don't like it, someone at your field will pay you what you paid for it built without a loss. |

To STLPilot-
I have the same setup with the Magnum 80 4 stroke. Can you tell me what props you have had luck with? |

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Thanks for the repelys. Most of it made scents's.
No i wasnt looking for a fun fly type plane. I was looking for a 3D plane. One that i could use my 46 fx in and beable to take the wing off. I had a OMP 540 profile and loved it dearly! Did everythinng i could and then some. The only prob i had was it was one piece. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
hey guys i'm gonna give it a go witht the tower hobbies .75................now i will not have a flight report till next year i plan to get the UCD over the winter.............for my only 3D plane i really will only use it to bore holes in the sky and do cool stuff that i dont get to do with my pattern planes

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
UCANDO will not flat spin right side up ... but inverted will flat spin with the best of em!

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
UCANDO will not flat spin right side up ... but inverted will flat spin with the best of em! Anyone get it to flat spin right side up? I've tried a couple of times and ended up spinning inverted even when i was trying right side up! |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
ive done plenty of simulated upright flat spins. they look like about 75% of the real thing

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I just picked up my Saito 100 yesterday. All that's left is install engine and radio gear, hopefully it will be the air early next week. To much going on and not enough time. Also going to go with a 16 X 4W APC prop, should be just right with this engne. I also picked up a 1500 mah NiMH 6.0 volt battery pack. I wanted the extra power and speed the 6 volt gives. I will be using Futaba 9202 servos all around except on the rudder where I am going to try a Futaba 9253 digital servo. I have an extra one from my helicopter and want to see how it works.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I received my saito 100 last week. Friday night I broke the motor in and I've installed a 16X4W prop on it. The motor idles great and transitions to full power great. This morning well see how it flies.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I test flew my Can-Do this morning. WOW!!! the 100 rocks it will hover at 1/4 throttle. I need to get a lower pitch prop. All I had was a 15x6apc and at a very low idle she didn't want to land. I'll have to pick up a 16x4 next week.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I got my .46 size U Can Do today and after reading the above posts, can't make up my mind to keep it or sell it. What do you think? I have a Saito .80 I was going to hang on it, but the instructions stress not to put more than a .70 on it.
|
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
bump the instructions put what you want on it and controll the throttle :D
