How critical is using a High Torque Servo for the rudder with the U-Can-D0 .46? I have standard JR 537 servos. Is Servo Torque also an issue with the ailerons?

I was planning on mounting a Magnum XL .91 FS in the upright position in my U-Can-Do .46. Does anyone see any possible problems with doing this? Thanks for the advice.

I thought about mounting my Saito .72 upright but I didn't want cut a big hole in the top of the cowl and ruin the lines. Inverted works fine, I use a GP fueling valve that blocks off the carb when the probe is inserted, so after flying I plug in my fueling probe to keep from flooding. The nice thing about inverted mounting is that the engine is TOTALLY concealed.

I think that I have a problem with overheating on my ys. How big of an access hole do you guys have cut out in the front of your cowl? and has anyone else had this problem?

i think my friend with his ys has the front/bottom half of the cowl cut open, or he may just have the whole front open , i forgot, but i take his and i hover-torque roll his u can do for about half of the flight, and we havent encountered any problems with it yet... what gas are you using?

Received mine a month ago, put it together using a Magnum 61 2 stroke. The first two flights ended dead stick due to my inept tuning. The plane is a floater and was easy to land. The third flight the engine was "right" and I was just starting to feel out the plane, slow rolls and loops, etc. I was about 50' up when I got hit and the plane would not respond, period. The Fuse. was totaled as well as the horizontal stab. The wing is rebuildable with damage on one wingtip. I was able to put the radio system together on the bench and it worked flawlessly.... . As near as I can tell no one had a tx on 50 at that time. The only other thing is that the antenna wire was quite close to the "Y" harness for the elevator servos? Anyone think that might be a cause for interference? I LIKE THE PLANE AND ORDERED ANOTHER TODAY.

would the tower hobbies 75 2-stroke work good in the u-can-do 3D 40? i have heard this engine has alot of ower and it doesnt hurt the wallet....mor power than the 50sx at a cheaper price....

last one. the purple on the rudder isnt permanant at the moment, im thinking of doing a red and purple stripe on the rudder to match the rest of it, keeping it simple is moot at this point..

Are you running the YS a couple of clicks to the rich side? On any plane that has a cowling, you HAVE to run the engine rich to avoid overheating. No worries, the engine will lean out in flight and perform great.

The rule of thumb I have heard is air exit area must be 2X the air intake.

It is still a new engine, so I have been running it pretty rich. It still overheated until I flew it w/o the cowl. Runs great w/o it though. Sorry, I know this isn't an engine forum. How big of an intake hole have you guys cut in this cowl? and does it need to extend beyond the top of the engine?

Taking off the cowl while breaking in a new engine is a very good idea and leaving it off permanently is something to consider as well. I have a fairly large hole in the bottom of the cowl and it still overheats and even more so while hovering.


The cowl does look nice but it is a pain to contend with particularly on a fun fly plane. In cool weather ,overheating may not be as much of a problem

Thanks, that's good to know. I really hate to leave the thing off permanently because it looks so nice with it on! but if that's what it takes to keep it in the air, then so be it. I'll cut a bigger intake and see what happens.

The UCD 46 has a built in air-out channle on the bottom of the fuse just behind the cowl. Some people think it is a place for the muffler to sit if you side-mount the engine. It is more than adequate for allowing air to flow over the engine while in forward flight. However, in a prop hang, torque roll, harrier, elevator ... any slow-to-no-forward-flight maneuver ... overheating is an issue.

I agree with the post above, leave the cowl off until the engine is broke in. Ever try to adjust the low end needle screw on a plane with a cowl? What a pain.

I have not flown my UCD 46 yet, but The cowl and air flow channel on it and the Kangke Fun 50 are basically the same. On the Fun 50 cowling, I cut a hole big enough to see the carb. This was not just for air flow but also so I would have easy access to see the barrel and put my thumb over it for a good prime on first starts.

OS50SX never overheated on me with that big "shark mouth"air flow/intake hole.

Well guys, I have fallen victim to wing failure ... same place the rest of them are coming apart. Leading edge between the fuse and servo.

They told me to ship it ... which I did and they will replace entire unit.

I will keep you posted.
