RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I finally had a chance to move the cg back. It ended up about 6.25" The weather was crappy with a cold light rain and wind about 15 but I had to fly. As soon as I got up and trimmed out it started to rain a bit harder. I liked the way it felt for the little bit I got to fly. I had to land a cover the do with a tarp. By the time the rain let up I was too cold to go back up. I am getting the itch again and can't wait til friday.
Only one guy drove out to the field on Saturday and he commented even the hard cores aren't going to fly. I was thinking to myself what does it take to be a hard core. I'm flying in 50 degree rain. sheesh. I did get a couple hours build on the Super Star. Should have that flying in a couple of weeks of slow build. Dave |

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hey guys...Im soupin up my old 46. I have a saito 72 in there now but have weak vertical, etc. Whats the next best size you guys have found to be good in the UCD? Maybe a 90 or 100 four stroke?
|
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I have been running a Saito 82 in mine for about 2 years now. It's a perfect match for this plane. Does everything well and holds a hover at about 1/2 throttle. [8D]

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)I run a Saito 82 in my 46. Have done from the beginning. I think it's the perfect match. I love the way it flys.....and it drops right in with the same bolt pattern as the 72. However, there are those who think the 100 is a better fit. I'm not going to argue with that.
Thanks Barry PS: I use a APC 14x4W prop. Perfect fit for my elevation |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I have an OS Surpass 91 on mine. It's plenty of power. The thing rockets vetrical with 15x4 I believe the saito .82 puts out about the same oomph but weighs less than the 91. If you are buying a new engine go with the saito!!

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I'm at 1750' ASL and have no complaints with Surpass 91 swinging either 15x4w or a 15x6. I actually prefer the 4w as it slows the plane down quite a bit. Vertical performance is great(if I could only learn to hang it on the prop longer than 20 sec.:D) with plenty of power to climb out!

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Do you guys think a saito 65 is has enough power to fly the u-can-do .46?? It is a little lighter than the o.s. 70 surpass and only putts out a tad less HP. Also I saw some video of a .46 u-can -do and it could hover and everything with a 70 on it. If not I have a Tower .61 with a pitts I could slap on it. But I really like my 4 Strokers.
|
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
With out doubt, the saito 65 will fly it. However, whether or not you will be satisfied with it is uknown. I suspect if you prop it right you would be able to hover with it, but don't look for much of a climb out if any at all with it.
The .61 two stroke should do all you need it to if you aren't happy with the 65. The plane is just a real joy to FLY, so if ya got the cash, BUY!!:D |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
After moving the CG back I still wasn't able to flatten out my spins either upright or inverted. So i put longer arms on the elevator servos to give them a little more advantage. The surfaces almost pull perpendicular. Not quite but....
You can feel the difference. I have to reduce the dual rates a bit to help landings. The Do will flatten out much better now. I don't have enough power for a rising flat spin but I can hold an inverted spin pretty much until I run out of gas. As a matter of fact, I was about 30 feet in a slowing climb I pushed it over and I ran out of gas! [X(] I kept the dive to get some speed up and pulled back a bit to level out and dead stick to the runway. With the new throws and me a tad paniced the Do just flattened out into an elevator. The left wing dropped into the wind, I nosed down, got some speed, got the the plane level yanked full back just in time to flatten out into earth. I was meaning to reinforce the landing gear anyway:). That's all that broke, just the gear. There is really not much holding them on. I thought I flamed out but back at the pit the tank was bone dry. I guess it's a bit more fun to fly now and I lost track of time. |
