I thought that was a good prop too, and I do plan on taping the hinge line this time. Just waiting on Great Planes to send me the new ailerons. The ones I have have only the most rudimentary bracing and twist rather easily. My builder and I plan to cut the monocote and add some stiffening braces and a bigger "bite plate" for the control horn to hang on to. The Hi Tech HS-475HB servos are brand new, tight as a drum and my builder friend put heavy duty control arms on them from his turbine jet kit. The 4-40 rods have Sullivan clevises (gold) with the silver clasps, and the rods are covered with (if memory serves) .150 ID carbon fiber rods held in place with hex nuts. The combo has enough torque to just about close the door on my little Nissan Sentra, so I figure they are plenty powerful enough for this application.

Now as for rpm, I gotta be honest, I haven't a clue. I don't possess a tach, and it seems that nobody I fly with does either. Guess that something to put on Santa's wish list then. LOL

I don't know what speed you'll start to get flutter. I try to keep my UCD around 1/4 throttle unless it's pointed up or for short bursts while doing aerobatic maneuvers, in fact I don't think I can remember that last time the plane flew flat and level for more than a couple of seconds and I always cut the throttle to idle when ever the nose is pointing down.

I did see a one of our club members flying his UCD with a 46AX and he started to get flutter during flat and level flight at 3/4 throttle. I'm sure your 55 makes more power that the 46. If your using a 12x4, I think a 13x4 or 14x4 is worth trying. I do think it's a very good idea to seal the hinge lines but I don't think it'll to any good without HUGE amounts of throttle control.

Sounds like maybe I got me the wrong a/c. I like to fly loops and rolls, and I've always wanted a plane that would fly the "knife edge slide". I hope that the planned aileron upgrade mods we are planning will do the desired things or else I might need to think about changing to a different plane. All of you have been a tremendous help with this plane's issues. When I get it flying again, I'll let you know how I make out. Many thanks to all, it is greatly appreciated.

I think mine flies dangerously fast on full throttle, level flight, with a four-stroke engine swinging a 4" pitch propeller. The U-Can-Do just isn't a fast plane, it's intended to fly ridiculously slow. I usually fly level flight on ~1/4 throttle.

Hey guys I just got my first u can do .46 and when I opened up one of the holes for the servos in the wing I noticed that a rib is broken, do you think I should fix it or try to get a new wing from GP. It will have a saito .72 for power.

:)If that was mine...I'd just push the wood back in place (it'll probably just snap in there) and hit it with just a little CA glue. Wouldn't take but a minute and it'd be better than new.

can you post more pics of the damage? If it's not too extensive I think that like Barry's saying the CA will make the area stronger than if it hadn't been glued.

The wierd thing is that there looks like there is wood missing from the broken rib but no pices in the wing. there is a gap on both cracks about a 1/8 th inch. i could slap a pice of balsa and ca glue but I am afraid what the rest of the wing looks like inside.

It's still hard to tell from the pics. Depending on how much time it would take to fix it and if you have good access to the area maybe you need to send it back.

I am happy to say that Tower Hobbies E-Mailed me back and said that a new wing is on the way in 5-7 days.
That is Great customer service. well hope to be flyin soon.

Yes it will be my first 3-D but not my last. I have been trying to hover my float plane and my tiger moth and so on. so I decided to get one that is made to hover and stuff.

Yeah, You'll like the Do. Very fun plane to fly. I've had 3 of them over the last 2 years and recently thought about selling it ((([X(]))) but couldn't bring myself to do it. I'm sure glad I didn't. I used to be the only one at the field with one, now there's about 5 of them down there. Like I say, you'll love the Do. :D

What a good day Do'in it. I got three really good rolling circles. The hovers are getting better. The OS 70 is pulling alot better after 3.5 gallons. The OS is just sipping the fuel. What a good day.

It's always a good day when you get to Do it. I'm going to take mine out today again. Love that plane. I heard there's another guy at the field that got one. I think that makes 6 flyin' there now. W0w! A Do fest. [X(]

hi guys, well just stoppin in to say hi and let ya know im almost completly moved to round mountain and have been working my new job for 3 weeks now.
i just got back from the old place and brought 2 of my planes with me:D of course one was my 46 Do and my superstar also, been a while since ive got to fly but im looking real hard to find a place,(ill use a backroad if i have to:))
man these planes are hard to transport with furniture so i ended up putting these two in the car with me so id know they would make it and they did!
also have a new problem in that i can only get dial-up here for now and that is really a downfall.....[:o]

will stay in touch more as i settle in;)

Glad to hear you're still around Gary even though you had to move......Uhm.... something like that. It sure is difficult to move. I feel for you. Done it too many times in the past several years. I told my wife that people were going to think that we were in the "witness protection program"

Ok I think I found the reason for the flutter problem. My buddy and I spent the evening finishing up my Bobcat (also with an OS55) and putting the new ailerons on my U can Do. We took the old one, the ones that fluttered so badly, and cut the monocote off of them. What a shock! The built up section where the control horns attach, weren't glued! Even at the joiner points, there were major "dry" spots. Also several of the stringers that ran across the aileron were of such soft balsa that simple finger pressure was enough to damage them. Let me hasten to add we aren't talking about much pressure. The new ones are much stiffer, and we made sure that we wicked up plenty of CA (even drilled a few extra ports for us to dribble CA into) and by the time we mounted the new control horns, the edges where they were to mount were hard as iron! Tomorrow we fly it again, and will maiden the BobCat as well. Wish me luck.

Hello all. Good to see the Usual Suspects are still lurking around on this thread. The snow is melted and I just flew for the first time since November! Man it feels good. Now I have some serious motivation to join the Saito 82 and the Do and get the whole mess up into the air. I'll update as I get started. Happy flying all,

Original U-Can-Do with a GMS .60, lots of vibrations, receiver failed both ailerons & throttle, not
able to sustain flight for fuel load, so cartwheeled in the grass, destroyed the fush. replaced it with a styrofoam 4' piece, flys with a OS .40 LA, does all kinds of stuff, best flyer I ever had..
