RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Still in the process of getting my UCD together, setup is going to be with an OS 91 Surpass 1 turning 15x4 prop.
What concerns me is the amount of tail stabs coming apart in flight, has anyone used flying wires on this, i was thinking of using a Sulivan flying kit to help strengthen up the rear end... any inputs Cheers |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
if you look close at mine you might just make out the red weed trimmer line on the stab. I wasn't going to take a chance.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Drilled .080 holes to match the .080 line pushed it through then pullled it tight and hit the holes with thin CA. Works like a champ.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
ordered my UCD 46 today,...
So, since they've been out for awhile, what changes should be done? Exxpresspilot, do you have ne pics of the tail wires? Is there anything i should change on the ucd? Thanks David |

I added weight inside under the rudder servo to take me to 6 inches on my CG thanks for the feedback. Here are the pics of the tail brace wires. I would make sure to fiberglass the gear block as recommened in previous posts. I think the saito 91 with a cline regulator and a larger tank under the canopy on the CG is a kick *@# combo on this plane. Nothing taken from the 100 but the 91 gets the job done with guts on this plane and the engine isn't even broke in good and running very rich. I think the suggestion of a 15/4w apc was right on the spot it seems like the perfect prop for what I wanted. I'll let y'all no how the new CG works out this weekend.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Anything on the 50sx, servos moved up with pull-pull? I bet you could keep it under 5.5 with this and 225's in the wings.
howbout the .72? All i hear is satio 91 and 100 Thanks David, I will have mine on friday:D |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I see reading the earlier post that the 50sx is marginal at best. the saito 72 would work but I don't see you having any reserve on pulling out of a hover. I think the 91 or 100 would be the ticket. My 91 is not too much at all I say just about perfect. With a 4 inch pitch prop speed is not a problem and you have pull out of the hover. If your really good maybe you don't need the extra pull but at my level I sometimes need the power to get out of trouble. The Weight differance is not much of an issue with the extra power and the little amount we are talking about.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
The .72 will work fine and hover fine. but the .91 and 100 give you a little more reserve when you really need it. when you start hovering low it's nice to have the power to bail you out. it is worth spending the extra $15. i've let a friend fly mine that has a .72 and he says mine moves a little crisper and with a lot more authority. It's all about preference. you can do the same moves with the .72 it's just a lot more fun with the .91

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I have also heard some problems with the very soft rear fuse, couple of them breaking in-flight, and really hard to handle without breaking, is this true???
Should have mine by friday David |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
How about hardcore 3d? Has ne one actually pushed this plane to its limit?
And if you havent checked out the video arcive, check these http://69.57.156.190/magazine/review...do-Richpoe.wmv http://69.57.156.190/magazine/review...ando3d46-1.wmv Looks good to me.... David |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Got my ucando 46 today, loks nice, i think im gonna try a satio .72 at first just to see how it flies. Im going mini diges all over for weight savings, lipoly batteries, carbon gear, no wheel pants.
Shootin for about 5.25lbs but it wont be easy, might try a 50sx for wieght reasons. If it doesnt work real well i'll put the .91 in it, bt if i can get 5 and a quarter, the .72 should be awesome. David |

David I just finished mine and it came in at 5 lbs 14 ozs. with a saito .72 in it. with standard servos. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hey guys is there a new revised C/G for this plane mine calls for 4 3/4. got it to balance at 4 7/8 with no added weight. using a saito 72 and a 1100 NIMH pack.
Thanks |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Good luck shooting for 5.25. I just finished mine and it came in at 5 lbs 14 ozs. with a saito .72 in it. with standard servos. I figured using mini digitals will save the most weight, and using lipoly batteries too. Carbon gear saves 2oz (i think havnt bought them yet) Micro servo on throttle, OS 50sx or satio .72..... donno yet. bodymann, how much does yours weigh? David |

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Yea should have been a little sheet of paper in your box if you got it lately telling you the CG can be anywhere from 4" to 6" with Great Planes blessing. I started out at 5 1/4 and have just moved to 6". But wont know how it works til tommorow.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I just came from the field after the maiden on my UCD46. I flew it's big brother all last year and was hoping for similar but better. I was really disappointed. It was a bit windy but this thing was really squirrelly. I couldn't get much of hover at all. It seems like the rudder is ineffective till you get a lot of throw in. I'll give it some more time but I have my doubts. I does do the easiest KE spins I have seen.
UCD 46, Saito 91, Futaba 9C, 9202s on all but rudder, 9252 on rudder later,,,basmntdweller |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
LOL .......it's in the quote David Whadga think of those vids? |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Express Pilot I see on you pics of you plane you have guy wires on the stab and tail. Have you had trouble in the past with the tail section?
Chuck |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Nope. But I don't won't any problems. Not much meat back there for all the stress that I put on it.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I havnt really started assembly of mine but to me the tail structure seems pretty darn sturdy to me.
I dont have the tail glued on but the fuse doesnt seem as weak as eveyone says. does it really need added support? Still trying to decide on an engine, Anybody want to sell me a Satio .72, os 50sx or a satio.91? David |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
My stab broke about an inch and a half out from the fuse. This was on my second flight, plane destroyed. Thats why I was asking aout the guy wires. I had gap seals and the whole nine yards. It broke in level flight at half throttle with a .46fx and a 12X6 Zinger.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
See, i dont know how that could happen. It would have to be fluttering like crazy or be hardly held on. mine feels plenty sturdy, thats why i was asking.
Sorry to hear that though, is gp gonna fix it? David |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
David,I have over 40 flights on mine and the tail has held up fine.Blenders walls everything I have thrown at it.
