Prop to hover with a YS63?

Anyone tried all the APC etc props on the YS63 and found the best one for hovering?

thanks in Advance!

Prop to hover with a YS63?

13x4W or 14x4W would be good choices.

Believe it or not, the Zinger 14x4 is an excellent prop on that engine for hovering. While not quite as efficient an airfoil as the APC, it is quite a bit lighter, allowing it to spool up faster and provide instantaneous transition between throttle settings.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll place an order today!

Second the Zinger. THe wood props spool faster and create great torque.

Prop to hover with a YS63?

I 3rd the 14x4 zinger. I had it on my SE, now I have it on my top cap. I am not a great hoverer but I am learning. This set up on my top cap makes it a lot easier.

14x4?

Tried the 14x4 prop.

Good point: very quick throttle response.
Bad points: Less static thrust than a 12x6apc (slower climbout from hover (too slow))
Top speed of plane dropped from 90mph to about 45.
Noticably louder (prop noise)

Guess I'll try a 13x5 apc (if they make it) or a zinger.

Prop to hover with a YS63?

It all depends on the airplane, the weight, and the type of flying. The 14x4 zinger on a 4.5 lb Morris the Knife provides ballistic acceleration out of the hover! I would NEVER fly one of these planes at 90! With the thrust stream tube provided by such a large blade on this size aircraft, 3D vectoring type manuevers are greatly enhanced.

speed

It is actually on a twin 63 powered 3d plane that weighs about 11lbs. I need to get the max thrust to get a better pullout from the hover. My speeds were estimates. The bottom line was that with the 14x4's the engines were screaming and the plane looked as if it were on the verge of stall.

BTW, we took a radar gun out to the field and I was surprised to find that my 63 powered (40 size) Balsanova was hitting 103 in a dive and 90 straight and level. It didn't look THAT fast and it wasn't gonna fly apart or anything. Now my buddy's quarter midget that looked like it was screamin was only going 160 out of a very slight dive.
