Thanks Adrian. I was wondering if there is an aerodynamics explanation why harriers are improved with the tips removed.

Yep, the wing tips are there for stability. So.....why would we want them on a 3D plane.
Here is one of my Flips that I left the ailerons the same length, however removed the wing tips. |

the wing tips are not just there for stability. They re-enforce the ribs, so by removing the tips you are removing strength.
The pic of your flip with the tips removed looks really wrong though- just my opinion anyway. |

When I saw how Mike Conrad was doing superb rolling harriers in DODVF with his UCD, with his wings unmodified, it kinda make me wonder why some have complained that the UCD is poor at it.............

luke - - no strength in the ends just for speed stadility, we have for years modified our stiks this way with marvelous results.

hi adrian,
I thought exactly the same as you before i actually encountered it myself- on my innovation pro i noticed that the whole wing flexed front to back a lot less with the wing tips glued on. My innovation wing was made a lot torsionally stonger. |
