OMP Giant Edge

Hi,
I'm building one of the OMP Giant Edges for a guy right now. Very nice! The wood in the kit is beautiful. The plane is well engineered also. It has full size rolled plans, and an instruction CD with videos of the plane flying. I watched the videos and can tell that the plane is very stable in a hover. You can watch the controls and while they are moving, they aren't dancing around. The plane will do mild or wild, and lands nicely. It is 80" and a OS 1.60 would be perfect for it. The plans show the OS 1.60 in fact. It has views for optional split ailerons also. It comes with what looks like large scale 'crazy legs' fiberglass gear. The fuse is sheeted blue foam. The servos are mounted in the tail, and the equipment is mounted in the fuse and has access hatches. I was very impressed with it after I studied it some. The threads that I have read so far on RCU show the wood fuse built up version, and guys were reporting 13 pound weights. This one (blue foam version) has a 10.5 pound weight listed. From what I can tell it looks like the weight listed will be very attainable. The guy I'm building this for also got a mousse can pipe that was made real nice. I really believe that this one is a winner in the 1.60 class. They also put out a smaller edge that the guys rave about. It's just a very nicely thought out, quality kit, and from the guys I've talked to, and the videos I've seen, it flies great too! :)

Lanier Edge 540T ARF is a great choice. I see a lot of them with this engine.

Not Exactly Sure...

I'm not sure whether they have two versions, or have changed the design over to blue faom instead of built up. In my earlier post, I was just noting that the one I have here has blue foam, and the threads I have seen here on RCU show the same plane being built with a built up fuse. Might want to ask the guys at OMP about that one. If I had to guess though I'd say they changed the design some to lighten it. This balsa sheeted blue foam plane **has** to be lighter than a stick built and sheeted plane. The wood is really nice in this kit...I cannot say that enough. It is beautiful rose colored wood with continous grain, and there are no small 'knots' or anything in it. If you need more info on it here is there URL >>> http://ohiomodelplanes.com/
