Plane for .46 two stroke
 

I've got a 46AX, standard servos, and a few DS821's looking for a home. The 46AX was pulled from a GP Venus 40 because it wasn't enough power for me, so I'm looking for something that will have PLENTY of power with the .46.

A Hangar9 Tribute goes vertical into the stratosphere with a .46 engine, APC 12.25/3,75 prop and a pipe at 3/5 throttle! :)

Do you want it to be a 3D plane? If so check out a profile. They aren't everyone's favorite to look at but they can be a lot of fun to fly. I really liked my OMP edge-540 and I hear the Mojo is a blast too. I used a .55-AX on my Edge but prfiles are pretty light so I'm sure a .46-AX swinging a 12.25x3.75 APC or similar would get the job done especially if you did some sort of pipe or something.

If you are just looking for sport or precision then the GP Extra-300SP would be a good one. It's actually a capable 3D airplane but the .46 might not be enough for serious 3D so it would be better suited to more traditional flying. The plane is extremely stable, aerobatic and an overall pleasure to fly. I like it so much that I went out and bought it's 27% big brother.

Good advice!! Either the Mojo 40, Primo 40 or the Burrito from Swany would be PERFECT with your engine. If you want even more power and fine tuned throttle response, build a Mousse can pipe and combine it with a Macs header. You will be amazed at what the mentioned planes can teach you!!! Let us know what you decide on.

Thanks for the replies. I will consider both a profile and the GP Extra, though I didn't the the "that's it!" from them. I was not too excited with the 46 in my Venus, so I'm not sure why I'd like it in the Extra.

One plane I found (totally NOT 3D) is the VQ Pilatus. It's like an ugly duckling but for some reason I like it.

The .46 in the Extra will be a little livelier than your Venus probably but not extreme. Good for sport flying and IMAC type maneuvers. A .55-AX would be almost ideal as far as 2-strokes go in that airframe I think. Still, it's a great little flyer with looks and features that are normally only found in giant scale aerobatic planes. Extras are generally just very nice flying airplanes.

Another option if you just want to goof around is a Stik of some sort. Yes they are ugly but it's kind of like an ugly dog, they grow on you.

The Swany's profiles are all kits as far as I know. I built the burrito a few years ago and it was unbelievably fast and easy to put together. OMP profiles are available as very high quality ARF's but their kits are also great. I built the small Fusion kit and it was one of the best cut, easiest building kits I have ever seen. I had it all framed and covered in just a few days.

Have you gotten your Yak in the air yet? I'm really liking my Cermark 70" Yak.

I just picked up fuel for the Yak this past weekend (YS 20/20). We're in the last 3 weeks of school so not much flying, and with pattern meets the day after my last exam and the following week I'm not really thinking about the Yak. Probably the week of the 16th. I've been doing pretty well with the pattern stuff, but being only one season in and having 6 months off I don't feel up to the Yak until I get some more stick time in.

The Extra looks really nice, kind of my 'cup of tea' as far as looks go. I can always throw a pipe on the 46 too...

Another cheap way to get more power out of the engine is to get a tower hobbies muffler, around $15. Easier than a pipe because all you gotta do is bolt it on and fly.

Guys, thanks for all the tips and info. I decided I want to get a profile plane for my .46. I think that will nicely balance out my hangar, and give me something a little more comforting than my Yak to experiment with. (I also put the Phoenix Funstar on my wishlist, just in case...[:-]

If you have any recommendations or links of places that have glow powered profile ARFs, it would be great. Are there more than the two mentioned above, and the H9 plane?

I really like the OMP stuff. The Edge 540 was a blast. I actually sold my Fusion once it was complete and never flew it; I hear it is great though. I've only built the Burrito from Swanys and it was cool; I know a lot of people really like his planes. Extreme Flight has the Chinn Yak too but it looks like it is out of stock:

I have a Bad Boy V2, it is the only profile that i have so i can't really compare it to the others mentioned but i can compare it to UCD 46 and Twist which i have had. The BBV2 is a much more capable 3D plane than than either of them, I am no 3D expert but the BBV2 is a great plane to fly. Landing takes some getting used to as it wants to keep flying at anything much above stall speed, also make sure that your low rates for landing are very conservative. I think it is a great plane for learning 3D but of course there may be others that are better. I really enjoy mine and the price was good to.

I own the GP Extra-300SP. I had a 55AX in it and it flies good with that. I didn't try 3D, but the vertical was really good. A 46AX will do good sport aerobatics, but will not make this plane a 3D flyer.

As posted earlier,give the Tribute a try. It flies and lands much better than a trainer but with the 46AX it has unlimited vert and just floats around the sky.
