GP Cap 232 .40 problem
Hi
I have a friend that owns a cap 232 .40 kit version, by great planes. He is having this problem, the plane should be a .40-.46 size but with that kind of engine it flew like hell. He installed a O.S. .61 FX and now the plane flies well but still it can't hoover. At full trotle the plane comes down. The prop is a 13x6 and he was thinking of changing it to a 12x6. Does any one have any suggestions to make. Thanks for the help. |

GP Cap 232 .40 problem
What type of prop? Hopefully APC. Going down an inch in diameter will reduce thrust.
Remember that the 61 FX is a lot heavier than the 46. That may be part of the promblem. However, if you still can't hover, I would suggest it has been built too heavy. |
GP Cap 232 .40 problem
Weight could be the problem. This plane should come out at about 6 pounds, but some can get it lighter. What you require is a long propeller, 13-14 inches, with a smaller pitch such as 4-5 inches. This produces the thrust, but will make the plane fly slower....so it will not use speed to get it through the maneuvers quite as well. You could try a 13x5 prop if you can find one.

FYI I'm building one at the moment myself, plan to put a Saito 91 in it. Will use a 14 inch prop, probably an APC 14x7.
Also, if it comes out as much as 6lbs, I'll be disappointed. Hoping for under 51/2lbs. |

Please be aware that the model was not originally designed with hovering in mind. It was designed in late 1997 to be competitive in IMAC and MinIMAC aerobatic competition. Likely, if it's kept light enough during construction, it can be made to hover.
