Freestyle Routine

Okay... I'm new to this RC airplane stuff... well, what I mean is, less than a year. So, I haven't really tried to look good doing it... rather I've just tried to start learning the maneuvers. I haven't learned them all... maybe half of them... I don't even know. But, now when I'm on the SIM I find myself just messing around. I'd like to start putting together a Freestyle Routine and start trying to look good doing it. :-)

I'm open to freestyle routine suggestions. Chris? Wayne? Anyone?

I ordered the DVD set from PropWash of the 2000 TOC to get some ideas. But the DVDs came garbled. Another mom and pop I suspect. :/ Anyway...

Here's a recording of my usual messing around:

Joe,

The TOC tapes are worth every penny if you can get a hold of one.

Most guys seemed to have all the maneuvers flow one into the other. Example,

Takeoff into a point roll. then into a rolling circle.

Blender to a low TR or a Hover.

TR into a low waterfall back to a hover or TR.

You get the idea..

Yea...get the Ballet of the Sky tapes and you'll be all set! It is all TOC freestyles. That will show you what manuevers flow together nicely. An important key to your freestyle is getting all of the manuevers to flow together....thats what I've been working a lot on. :)

So what about music? No coments there yet?

Last year I flew to Lowrider by War with great success. I might do Gorillaz 19-2000 (Soulchild Remix) or another one, but that's one's a secret.

And Lowrider was exaclty 3 minutes long, which was pretty cool. I guess you'll have to fade out Moby after 3 minutes, though?

Those are the old rules. Last year it was only 3 minutes. If I'm not mistaken, it's 3 minutes this year two. Can anyone else comment?

Hey,
To score good for a freestyle routine, you have to have one section of the flight smooth imac manuevers.. for example.. rollers, avalances, cuban's etc. Then after after about 2 minutes do 3d manuevers but do them as graceful as you can.. For my free routine after 2 min of imac manuevers i did a waterfall into a harrier then into a torque roll for my 3d section. Doing that got me first place for basic freestyle at the jr challenge killing the other competition by 200 points!

If you want to see some good freestyle routines, goto:

http://www.aerobatix.com/aerobatix/index.html

Click on the "Gallery" section.
First watch the 6.2 MB video of Yuri Higuchi.
This will really get you pumped up.
There are quite a few videos on there.

I would save the file and then watch it.
It can take a while to download.
Plus, you have it to watch later.
I must watch Yuri's video at least once a week.

See you all at Joe Nall !

I saw Yuri at the Joe Nall, and his performances there were actually better than those videos. The only exception was that he didnt do the rolling circle to landing approach. He did take a plane up after dusk, and TR'd it behind him. He was walking in a circle around the plane, ended up putting his back to the plane and just held it there. Fortunately, he was the only person for about 100 + ft, so if he lost it, woulda just plopped on the runway. Yuri seemed to be very personable when we spoke to him, and his equipment is top notch and then some. The wildest thing about his extra was the way his receiver wires were routed out to the horizontal stab, and when he did snap rolls, you would hear this screeching noise of the wires ripping into the wind. His planes are sooooo quiet in the air as well.

You have to do a selection of stuff and be creative with combos.
The judges dont want to see all the people do the same stuff so they will remember you if you do something different.

LOL;
Does that mean I get extra Points cause I use an Airtronics Sytlist and not a darn Futaba or JR. I love to be different. : )

Here is a fairly fast routine that Mr Ikegami the Lead Engineer and Test pilot for Hirobo did while I was in japan.

Using a Stream Hyper w/ a YS 63 w an OS 91 header and a YS 91 Muffler with the Baffle removed.
He cranked up hit the throttle went to a 2 ft. KnifeEdge to a KnifeEdge climb out to about 10 Ft. to a Torque roll then Hover lowering the Aircraft to a tail touch. Hit the Throttle climb to about 100ft. then on down leg went to an inverted flat then helicopter stopped it went to a Waterfall then a blender, straight to the ground at about ten feet pulled up to a harrier then two stationary rolls and went to a hover again lowering to a tail touch then rolled the nose to a landing. All this within 2-3 minutes. Most amazing flying and sky dancing I've seen in a while.

I'm assuming this is with a helicopter? How do you torque roll a helicopter?

Scorpionjack 04-01-2002 03:18 AM

Helicopter is a maneuver Sorta like a asending and decending Flat spin increasing and decreasing spin rate (Atleast thats what he called the maneuver)! What are you talking about?
