Servo Size
I need to find out how big of a servo I need. I am getting back into flying after a 12 year leave of the hobby. I am going to buy a 70" Cermark SU-26. Will have a 28cc. gas engine. When I left the hobby I had a Goldberg 72" SU-26 and I went withlarger sevros than normal but not 160 0r 180 oz. in. of torque. I am going to go with the metal gears. Any input would be helpful. RE: Servo Size
I would propably have used Hitec HS-5645MG for ailerons and elevators. They are a bit overkill for the elevators (dual I assume) at 10kg/143oz, but if they suit inside I would have used them. The price is low ;)
Your rudder would need some more torque if you do hard 3D. |
RE: Servo Size
I agree, I used 5625's in the 70" Cermark Yak we reviewed and they worked well. Maybe one a little beefier on the rudder if you're really going to wring it out.

RE: Servo Size
Barracuda, I noticed in your review you stated that you had a little trouble getting to the choke inside the cowl. Is there a problem with rigging the choke up with a servo? Also your review is the reason I'm going with this plane, I'm getting the SU. I like the looks, plus everyone has a Yak. Nice review and write up. Excellent building instruction and pics. How is the engine still running?-Smitty

RE: Servo Size
It ran like a scaleded dog right up until I let my buddy give it a shot and he burried it full bore into the ground. He stroked a check and took the whole thing home in a garbage bag.
Thanks for the kind words about the review. To be honest, the first thing I did was call Cermark and see if they had another one I could buy I liked it so much. As for the choke I ended up rigging a wire, I don't like extra weight if I can avoid it on a 3D plane and already had an ignition cutoff. |
RE: Servo Size
Thanks for the info. Any reason you can think of for me to not go with the SU instead of a Yak?-Smitty
PS - the wire sounds good to me too. The choke is spring loaded isn't it? |
