Need help selecting next 3D plane

I have been flying glow planes for exactaly 2 gal. of fuel. I got into aerobatics cheaply with the Modeltech Magic. Great to learn on but I am ready for the next level. I can hover it for a short period, flatspins, knifeedge, rolls, etc. Don't know what a waterfall or parachute is exactally or how to perform them. I have heard that the Magic is not very easy to hoover and that there are much better 3D planes out there. I have a O.S. 40 and hope to use that in my next 3D. Is that possible? You 3D vetrans out there have suggestions for my next plane?

I prefer, for a cheap indestructable 3D plane, a 36 inch pizzabox with an OS 46 fx on a tuned pipe, it will teach ypu how to hover without the worry of distroying an airframe.

Well, you are limiting your choices if you plan to use your 40. In that case, a SPA3D may be a good choice (design it with a 32" wingspan). The flip may be also (I saw one fly with a Saito 56).Personally, I don't see how the SPA3D will be any different that what you are flying now. I cannot think of another plane that will suit your request.

However, there are several 40 sized planes that will fly with a 40 sized engine, but will not 3D. You will have to up the power (usually shoot for a 2:1 power/weight ratio for 3D), then your options are numerous.

Well, if it is nessecary to up the power I am willing to wait a bit longer to fund that option. I flew a u-can-do 3D a friend had and I could hoover for a very long time and fly around really slow with the tail drooping behind (is there a name for that?) It was powered with a Saito 90 and was a great deal larger than mine. I don't need to go this large but I want something a lot more advanced than the Magic. I have all but topped out on that plane. Any MOTOR and PLANE combo. Have you flown the smaller U-can-do-3D Wildnloose?

If you like the U Can Do, and want a smalle plane, you should look at the hanger 9 Funtana. I have flown on with a Saito 72. It is a very forgiving plane, that has all the 3D abilties you could ask for :D

Mike....they now have a .46 size UcanDo3d that goes for about $149. The new Funtana is also real nice.
Im picking up a 1/4 Sig CAP 231 today and then the Norseman floatplane on Thursday. Did you ever get that Brushless for the Corona?

It does look nice. Have you seen it flown with a .40? Do you think it is underpowered?

Hey Ken.
The brushless is in the mail!!! It would have been here already but they could not contact me while I was on vacation.
I just hope the 46 size ucando3D performs like your full size. Did you fix that fuse yet (famous last words "Do you think you still have enough fuel to hover?"
I bought a cub for my Saito 30. Now I am looking for floats.
I broke the trainer switch on my Eclipse though. It went to HiTec yesterday. Nice to have them as neighbors.

Airplane

Order a Sledge short kit from Morris. Build it with contest balsa. Put in 4 HS 225's, 1 HS85, a Super Slim receiver, and 720 nimh battery. This will give you very good 3D performance. I'm flying one with a Webra .32 on a mousse can pipe, and it is a great airplane. Mine weighs an ounce over 3 pounds. Tom

The only problem I have with that is that I am not an experienced kit builder. I have built one simple electric kit (nemisis) and have ordered my second attempt (mountain models Tantrum) but am reluctant about building a gasser until I feel more confident as a builder. I do enjoy building (many repairs as well) but I am taking it one step at a time.
