Flaperons or spoilerons
 

Hi all.
Have been trying some of the 3D moves for a few months now, But due to the fact that I live remote & there's no one hear who does 3D I have been trying to learn off these forums.
Do you have Spoilerons or flaperons programed in for 3D or does it depend on what you are trying to achieve ?
I have seen on a few utube vids guys who have spoilerons in when hovering their planes , do some also have them in on blenders etc , keen to try some different things but thought I'd ask the question to see what others are doing/using.

I use spoilerons for all 3d maneuvers (full up elevator puts both elevators up about 40% of full travel. full down elevator puts both ailerons down about 40%).

I find it helps to hold the nose up in harriers and it makes it easier to get into a knife-wedge spin. It may also reduce the wing rock tendencies.

I have the spoilerons on a switch, but I leave the switch on for weeks at a time (take-off, landing, general flying around, 3d, etc.)

Just call them crasherons. Forget a switch and eat dirt.
No mixes for me. You can make a loop tighter with an ele-flap mix but if you need to, you have the wrong airframe.
Good airframes can do all the maneuvers with just thumbs.

I know there are a some 3D'ers in Aus. I know one in NQ, and another in LittleHampton, and a few in Melbourne.

DMcQuinn , thanks for your reply, I take it that you have yours mixed in with your elevators from what you have said ...so they are proportional to elevator input then ?.

Yes, proportional to elevators at a 40% rate. For general flyinga round you can leave the switch on and really can't tell much difference.

Hi Thumbskull, yeah I,ve seen some great Aussie 3d,ers on utube & down in Perth ,but where I live & work is 1400KM,s away from perth in Western Australia Not alot of 3D ers out here !:D not alot of much out here except Red dirt & wild life.

I have flaperons programmed on one of my Mojos and spoilerons on the other. Ideally, I guess you would want a three position switch so you could do either one on the same plane, but my radio doesn't do that. My radio also doesn't allow for coupling with the elevator.

I don't really deploy them very often, and I don't have them set with enough throw to really ruin my ability to land the plane.

Flaperons on my Mojo 40 allow for REALLY short takeoffs and tighter than normal loops. The spoilerons on my Mojo 60 make for really tight waterfalls.

They can be fun to play with, but keep the throws small.

The other thing to watch for, is if you use full ailerons while the flaperons are deployed, you could end up overextending your linkages. Just make sure there is plenty of throw in every situation.

I like them for knife edge spins and waterfalls, but generally don't like them for harriers.  Plane dependent for sure, but I've found on certain planes flaperons increase wing rock, or at least make it tougher to get the plane to settle down.  I tend to go through phases, using them all the time or not at all.  These days I'm not using them.
