Default Help CAP 580 landing gear tips Any info?

Hey guys, I bought built crashed[X(][:@] my plane (cap 580 GP) It was great (not the crash) Few questions though. I am having trouble learning to hover, i need tips on how to learn this skill without blowin $$$. Also the knife edge is pretty scary (thats how it went in)[&o] It is rebuilt and have not flown it yet. Should I hack the landing gear and use them as braces, they tore the wing up bad. I need a better way to install the b pack too as it ripped the foam and went a few meters. cant wait to flyit and please post soon, i need tips bad from all you experienced guys (Im 13) How should i land it until I can catch it?

THX

Hello, Hovering is an aquired skill and somthing that cont be taught, its just stick time. A simulator helps alot. One thing id like to note is that this forum is for 3D Foamy suport planes. You might consider posting this is the 3d flying electric forum, but as far as knife edge goes, im not bashing the GP cap, but it couples horribly and is not a good plane to learn how to KE on. If your looking for a new plane I would recomend out 3D Foamy Mini sukhoi from www.3dfoamy.com Here is a video of the plane, good luck.

on landing I would just come over the grass in a harrier, and chop the power 6 inches off the grass and let it fall. What motor came with your GP cap? leme know what it is and what your setup is and il tell you weather or not it will work in a mini sukhoi. Good luck.

Thanks for repliing. My setup is a GWS 6ch rec. HS 55 servos 3 cell electrifly 640mah and an Electrifly T-370 brushed ferrite motor with gearbox. Also, the wing servo is on the bottem, thould I build a balsa bow around it to protect it or what.

Honestly the power would be very marginal, I would recomend a new motor setup,

www.2dogrc.com (red 300 speed brushless motor)
and castle creations 10 amp speed control

your radio gear will work but I would recomend an extra servo to run dual aileron servos. Best of luck, any other questions let me know.

when you touch down you should be going 1 MPH as long as its soft you wont have a problem, just try to avoid landing on concrette

thanks a bunch I decided to make some massive wheels out of basswood and to land it a little more gently. It is all good and I will be flying soon, I keep you posted!!!

Hey, I just got home from a flight at the field that tested my new landing gear, amazing!!!!!!!! It took the punishment from a five food drop no problem when my ESC cutoff shut the motor down, this leads to another ?. My flight times are terribly short, my dad clocked it in a 1minute and fifteen seconds, would upgrading to brushless help the times and are there any other ways of improving it?

yeah honestly brushless would be the way to go, what "C" rating is your battery and how many amps does your motor draw? you might be over amping and the battery is reaching its cutoff voltage and shutting down... leme know what the motor setup is in depth.

This is all I could get, not much in the instruction manuel either, the li pos I am using only say that they:
This is the Great Planes ElectriFly Lithium Polymer 11.1V 640mAh
3-Cells In Series Battery Pack.
Ideal for flat foam 3D aerobatic airplanes and
medium size park flyers.

These batteries must be charged ONLY with a charger
designed to charge Lithium Polymer batteries which can apply
the "constant current/constant voltage" (cc/cv) charge technique.

FEATURES: Next generation replacement for NiCd, NiMH, and Lithium Ion cells
SafeCharge circuitry prevents individual cells from overcharging,
if any cell in the pack reaches 4.20V, the SafeCharge circuit will
automatically stop the charge process entirely
Unique power technology offers high energy density, low weight, long
life, safe operation, and environmentally friendly chemistry

INCLUDES: One ElectriFly Lithium Polymer 11.4V 640mAh Battery Pack with red
2-pin charge plug with 24 gauge wire, and discharge plug with 16
gauge wire with micro connector

REQUIRES: Charger such as the Great Planes Triton (GPMM3150), Hobbico Accu
Cycle Elite (HCAP0280), Hobbico Quick Field Charger MKII (HCAP02900)
or the Great Planes PolyCharge Lithium Polymer DC charger GPMM30100

If a mate to the discharge plug is needed, order WSDM3007

If a charge lead is needed, use the Great Planes 2 Pin/Banana Plug
Charge Adapter (GPMM3105), it is directly compatible with the
charge plug on the battery

SPECS: Dimensions: 2.48 x 1.29 x .47 (63mm x 33mm x12mm)
Weight: 1.90oz (54g)
Number of Cells: 3, wired in series

Volts: 11.1V
Minimum Discharge Voltage: 7.5V
Maximum Charge Voltage: 12.6V
Maximum Currents:
Charge, 640mA
Discharge, 9.6A

COMMENTS: NEVER charge Lithium Polymer batteries with a charger designed for
NiCd, NiMH, or any other type of battery chemistry. Use ONLY
the chargers listed under REQUIRES or equivalent substitutes.

Do not allow Li-Po cells to overheat at any time. Cells which reach
greater than 140° Fahrenheit (60C) will usually become damaged and
could catch fire.
Do not charge or discharge Li-Po cells on or near combustible
materials including paper, plastic, carpets, vinyl, leather, wood,
inside an R/C model or full size automobile.
Do not expose Li-Po cells to water or moisture at any time.
Do not store batteries near an open flame or heater.
Do not assemble Li-Po cells or pre-assembled packs together with
other Li-Po cells or packs.
Do not leave a Li-Po battery unattended during charging or discharging
Always store Li-Po batteries in a secure location away from children
Always remove a Li-Po battery if model is involved in any kind of
crash. Carefully inspect the battery and connectors for even the
smallest damage. CAUTION: cells may be hot! Do not allow the
electrolyte to get into eyes or on skin. Wash affected areas
immediately if they come into contact with electrolyte.
Do not alter or modify connectors or wires of a lithium battery pack.

Ya you need to go brushless,

I would recomend the red 300 speed outrunner from www.2dogrc.com and a pheonix 10

If you have further questions you might take them up in the 3D electric flying forum, this forum is suposed to be for www.3dfoamy.com planes, not all genaric foamys, thank you and best of luck with your plane, when its dead give me a shout out and I will see if I can interest you in one of our planes Have a good one.

www.falconbatteries.com has a 3s1p 880 that would be great! also if your looking for light their 3s1p 380 will work wonders.

www.2dogrc.com has a 40 dollar li-po carger that I love. does 1,2,3 and 4 cells at multiple rates.

both are around 40 dollars I believe. Good luck.
