OK.....I've got a question? I just bought an E-fite Ultimate 3D bipe and a Hacker A20L motor. What is the best way to mount the motor to the airframe. The airplane has a CF rod running the length of the fuselage and the Hacker has several hardware options. How do I adapt the radial Hacker fittings to the profile foam airplane with CF rod?

Thanks,

Ken Blackwell

RE: Welcome 3D Foamy

Hi Ken, To start I guess we should clarify a touch, 3DFoamy, is the name of a company 3dfoamy.com , so this support forum pertains more to my line of foamy's.

I am not familiar with that biplane so that is a good question. How do they mount their other motors on there? maybe you can make a mount.

Thanks

Still trying to get somebody to shoot flight pix and video for me before I wear it out; funny how the motor runs cooler when it's not 90 degrees out! Did you get my note about materials for the Bronco build?....Jim

RE: Welcome 3D Foamy

Yep, got the PM, can do, and you can put one size carbon inside another.

RE: Welcome 3D Foamy

Well im glad to see that there is a help forum now for 3DFoamy. John, good luck with the buisness and keep up the good work. Levi helped me in the past and hope you will do the same.

Im getting ready to finally start my pro Edge540 but have a few question for ya first.....

1. on the new wing design, do u or should u angle the trailing edge of the top and bottom wing halves? pros and cons if any?
2. should these halves be epoxied?
3. will the eflight park400 outrunner and 20 amp esc be good enough for this plane?
4.the batt that i will use is a thunder power 11.1 1320mah
5.4 hs55's

so, will this type of setup be ok for indoor outdoor fun??? and my last question would be ........

[sm=idea.gif]is there going to be any updates made to the plans and manuals for the new design changes? will there be a super Edge540 released, or maybe a super ULTIMATE from you guys would be the shiznit!!!! :D

anyway wishful dreaming.... any help on this matter would be grateful.

Have a great day and happy flying....... i have to deal with hurricane Dennis so im pretty mush graounded this weeked i think... damn him!

RE: Welcome 3D Foamy

Hi Phil,

I just finished mine a few months ago with a similar setup and I think can answer most of your questions.

I would taper the trailing edge of the skins on the Pro wing. Mine does some amazing stuff. I have not tried it without the taper.

Epoxing the half’s? If again you’re talking about the skins for the wing I used foam CA to save weight. Epoxy will add weight quickly. Won’t hurt to epoxy it, but use a very thin coat. The spar is epoxied in.

Elevators were epoxied to the CF rod provided. It did fail once on a landing when the grass caught it on the counter balance because of to much deflection. I used foam CA on it to repair quickly and it has not failed yet.

The Eflight 400 will make this plane go ballistic, be careful. I am using the 370 with a 6.6 gearbox and it hovers at 1/3. Yours will likley hover one click above off...j/k. :D The 400 will be plenty and probably plenty for the supers as well.

The battery I use is the same one and a perfect match for my setup. I am using the 56 servos on mine but the 55’s are fine. The 400 is a lot for this plane and I would respect it when it comes to your servos. It’s going to be a little heavier and will be good outdoors. Indoor, you’ll need a little more space than I do with that setup.

I wish I had mine on video for you. It will do things I’ve yet to see other foamy’s do. It will to true flat spins, not around the wing tip like most, but around the axis. Amazing falling leaf and waterfalls. I have almost 80 degrees of throw on high and the normal 45 on low. You’re going to love this plane!

Ken

RE: Welcome 3D Foamy

Your welcome and I should have clarified couple of points in my first post.

I forgot you were using an out runner motor which is a tad heavier than mine but I need a gearbox which probably evens us out. The Eflight 400 out runner has more power than mine but I may have exaggerated exactly how much. You will defiantly be very happy with the power anyway.

If you decide to epoxy the skins, use something like a flexible credit card to apply it as thin as possible and lay some books or something on top until it dries. Also to get good throw on the rudder, you will need to cut some foam off the elevators. I just cut the corners off making kind of like ½ hex.

Good luck,
Ken

Thanks Ken for the help, only thing I have to add is Im waiting on the previous owner to send me the updated manuals, so yes, once I get them they will be included on all kits and on the website.

Thanks

RE: Welcome 3D Foamy

Hi, you use rattle can paint that is foam safe, and spray it on lightly! Its amazing what can be done with a rattle can.

Krylon Short Cuts works great.

Most Meijer and K-Mart stores carry the product.

Howdy,

I am currently finishing up a f-18 and am left wondering what the proper CG is for this bird. I can't seem to find it in the manual or on the plans. any help would be appreciated.

Thanx, Skunk39

Skunk, if you look at the wing it has a couple slots in it, balance it in that range for the initial, then adjust as you like it. I maidened a buddies F18 this morning, what a sweet bird!

Have a problem with my SU-26. I epoxyed on the C.F. rod to my elev. Now that it is dry I noticed that the rod is curved and is binding as I can only get min. throws. I guess I'll cut it out. Now that the elev.and rudder are on is there another way to connect them?

RE: Welcome 3D Foamy

Hey,

I had a friend do this, after you get the rod out, take an 8 inch piece of flat stock carbon(3mm) and an xacto knife and cut a groove for it in the elevator(dont cut all the way through it just 3mm deep) about 1/2 inch past the leading edge of the elevator. Then glue both sides of the carbon and insert it into the groove and kick it. Good luck!
