Need help again... Pro 540 question
 

Hello guys ....again....lol

I hope that this is the last time i need some advise on the Pro Edge540 kit. i will be mounting a Eflight park 400 out runner in this plane and i got it with the Axi style motor mount. now, nothing seems to want to line up, meaning, motor mount to the fuse, seems like the mount is alot bigget than the fuse. i can think of many ways to fix this problem but i dont want to take away from strength. what would be the correct way to fix this and keep the thrust line where it needs to be?

Phil, can you show pics of what you mean? The edge thrust line is near where the fuse makes the X, that make sense?

Unfortunatly i dont, but, the mount for the edge has the the mounting holes and the shaft hole below the thrust line. should that be?and i should cut out for that? i want to mount the motor behind the mount. its almost like if the measurements were off by 1/4 - 1/2 inch all the way around the mount. as of right now, i would have to shave donw the nose area to make the mount fit. let me make sure i have the right mount here. from laft to right or the width of the mount is 3" hight or top to bottom is 2" longer on the bottom side shorter on the top. is the correct.

Phil, mount the mount how it goes, it will only line up one way in the fuse the way its made, then mount the motor to it. It will work out perfect.

ok i have to double check the plans ...lol i failed to go get then from the garage... let me go and look at then then i will get back to ya. i just watched the vid from the wram show, do i do the cut away like in the funtana? and mount the mount futher back more in the fuse than out front?

well, i must still have a set of old plans, cause it doesnt so the outrunner style mount set up. do i need to trim back some of the nose to match the sizing of the mount? im stuck. sorry for the idiocy. do u have a link that show how this mount is assembled to the plane?

You can mount the engine any way you like, as long as its secure.

What I would do, is mount the ply mount far enough back so the motor goes to the front of it, but thats just how I like them. Plans are on my site

Phil, I think you are talking about the older AXI mount that is sorta shaped like a cross with radius corners in the center. I have built five of the www.3dfoamy.com models now and the first two I built had the mount that you are describing. I can say from experience that the forward mount does not hold up. After several flights you will notice the foam on the nose starting to crinkle and then shortly after that the mount or the foam will crack. The two models I had with the forward mount I replaced with a back mount. I run all Hacker A20-20L outrunner motors on all of my models from this company. Hopefully I can post some pics so you can see what I am talking about. By the way these models are the best flying foam 3D models on the market. I also had some trouble building my first one but it was well worth the effort. If you have any questions let me know. Gene.

Gene thank u for the pics.....lol now i can see how this goes. yes i do have to "older style mount" looks like i have to get some wood and make a new mount. or just order a new mount from 3dfoamy. thanks for the help so far guys..

Here is what I did to mount it using the Pro mount system. I've attached a diagram from the front that the motor mounts to. You will have to make this out of light-ply yourself. You can see how it fits on the existing motor mount. You need to cut off about a 1 1/4 from the mount that's on your foamy to set the engine in. On the back side I epoxyed two pieces of small hard wood triangle stock.

Funny thing, just finished mine and then seen your post. I thought you had that thing done by now. :D I burnt up my geared 370 and went to the 400 outrunner and I am really happy with it.

hey ken,

yes i thought i would be done with it as well[>:] but as u can see i had some mount trouble. i guess i have an older ver. for the axi set up. question tho, ur thrust line does not seem to be at the cross( intersection ) how does it fly? and should i keep it as close to the cross as possible?

i did what u said about the wings, and to my amazment, straight as an arrow. and very strong as well, i ca'ed the whole thing came out very well. looks like ill be in the garage constructing the mount this weekend. then all i have to do is paint, ill post pics soon.

Hi Phil,

Sorry for the late response but I've been out of town on business. I would try to get it as close to the center as possible. Mine fly's great but it's a little lower than it should be and it wants to dive a tad at full throttle. With my old motor on the centerline it was perfect.
