Something like this is more what you are looking for. It is big and floaty, and is only three channels (no ailerons). And it has a very forgiving wing design.

This is the plane I learned on. I had zero experience and really only crashed it the first time I flew it. I wouldn't consider this the best choice for a first plane, but it's a RTF, so you can skip the hassle of the build. And I wanted a "scale" plane, so this was it for me. Red Rocket usually gives you a second battery for free.
