Ohh, and theres always the "paper mesh test".
Feed a thin strip of paper between the gears and turn them (by hand of course).
If its TORN: They're too tight.. loosen.
If there are no clear crease lines... tighten.
If its folds up like an accordian with clear lines, but NO tears, you've got it right!
