It had nothing to do with the structural integrity of the plane. He said it slid out on the tube, then broke.
If you pause the movie right at the point of the wing coming off, you can see the wing-half rotate on the tube and the wing is literally
ripped off the plane due to the sudden angle of attack. That's not the structure's fault... that wing tube never had a chance. I think any sponsor should be proud of that save! [8D]
