The biggest drawback from combined air/sea/land rc combat is the question of scale. The large scale that it requires to make a properly flying and armed combat aircraft model would force the ship guys to have HUGE (20 feet long or more) Ships. Most warship combat is at 1/144 scale which yeilds teeny tiny planes not capable of rc use.
