Default RE: Tuned Pipe vs standard muffler

ORIGINAL: Miketc

...what I would like to know is what advantage am I going to get from using an MVVS #3268 tuned pipe on this plane? Secondly any tips on the set up and the "tuning" of the pipe would help.
Mike,

The difference in RPM between the tuned-pipe and the #3271 Pitts style muffler is about 800-900 RPM.

The tuned pipe is a cone and disk type, which is more flexible than a dual-cone pipe and will generally work as it is fitted.
You will not have to chop the header, or anything.

The engine will spin about 7,300 RPM on a 20x8 prop with the Pitts and about 8,100-8,200 RPM with the pipe.

Another advantage is that the pipe will be somewhat more quiet and the exhaust fumes will be expelled behind the wing.

This exhaust will not hurt throttle response, like some smaller engines' finicky pipes can.

If you had the #3298/35 'dustbin' in mind; it would get 200 RPM less than the Pitts and it does tend to leak, I am told.
