RE: Is the K&B .65 a good engine? I found a new one in the box.
Although not the most popular engine in the K&B line, they were meant as an entry level mid size motor. A non bearing engine using bushings. The carb was inconsistent to set. A couple of pilots in our club either switched to an OS carb or a Perry that would fit. The .61 was a bearing model and better engine, but your's will still be fine to play with. I had the Magnum .65 econo. bushing model and it flew fine for almost 5 seasons; just be sure to use 18% oil only and never get it too lean. Heat is guick death for those bushings.
