A drill press is used to drill holes.
It's value over a regular drill is it's much easier to drill them at an exact angle to the surface. You can also use things like small sanding drums in a drill press.
A jointer is used to plane the surface of a piece of wood. This allows you to turn rough lumber into a flat piece of wood. Here's more from Wikipedia:
