Chris,

The balance point shown on the RCM plan for the Bombshell is 4" back from the wing leading edge. This is the 72" version with a 12" wing chord so your 35% figure is reasonable.

The tailplane has a thin symmetrical section so a 50% balance point might be a bit "interesting" to fly.
