Default RE: Super Skybolt ARF

ORIGINAL: cruzomatic

Hey guys. I'm currently building my Skybolt and posted a build question over in the ARF forum with no response really. Guess all the Skybolters are hanging out here. Please help, my question is what screws did you all used to bolt on the control horns on the ailerons and did you all used the square nylon back plate? The supplied 2 x 1/2in screws supplied in the kit come up way short and don't push through the aileron enableing the back plate to be used. All every ARFs that I've built, I've used them. Not sure if I trust those sheet metal screw all alone with no back plate. What did you all do and use?? Thanks,,,
You use screws to put on the control horns not bolts and backing plates. Drill the hole for the control horn (not all the way through the aileron) and screw in the screw, back it out and harden with a drop of CA. Then attach the control horn. Very easy and clean looking. I have around 50 flights on my Super Skybolt and the control horns are very solid.
