It isn't always the case, but if it is deadsticking towards the end of the tank, it is dieing lean. Fuel draw will peter out if the muffler pressure is random and the fuel level drops too far. High temp silicone might be the answer to a leaky muffler, and tie wire it to the case. The venturi size is a compromise between full power and fuel draw. If you let it idle for a minute, then pinch the fuel line momentarily, the engine should keep running. If it dies easily, it is too lean.....if it speeds up, then the opposite is true.
