Dave, I have a basic rule for styro encased planes. Figure out where the antenna wire is and expose at least 3/4" and tape down with scotch tape. Your range will double. The other thing I did to mine was that while I had the tx open, I loosened up the spring on the turn ele stick. I seem to have lost the tight loops, but twisting turns I gained.

Shoot, I'll try repairing mine tomorrow. Or the F-22, tough call.
