Airboats with air rudders will always "drift"(slide) to turn, just not uncontrollably. Any fins in the water combined with air rudders will most likely only make for loss in turning(wider, still slide). A water rudder is about the only correction, since it somewhat "grabs the water" to steer. I'd recommend he keeps the rudders as they are.
