One huge mistake I see a lot is thinking that glue/adhesive/epoxy is a substitute for wood to wood contact when attaching parts. Many will simply try to fill gaps with something like thick CA instead of spending the time needed to get a good wood to wood joint, and then are suprised when the joint fails in flight.
