It costs about the same as if I were to use a Dual H bridge setup for Robotics or one for RC tanks. I Just like using the ESC's because if they fail my Hobby Dealer will take care of it for me. and i dont like the cheap electronics that come in the WSN and HL tanks. It's a personal Thing really.. The extra work involed with wiring and finding a place to put everything Doesn't bother me. Would I recommend it to anyone on the forum probaly not unless they had some ESC's laying around. It would be easier going with a Single unit capable of runing twin motors for RC use. As for difficulty it's pretty simple Take the two esc's and run them from one battery then take the 2 channels you want to run the Tracks left and right run them through the mixer then into the esc's. In the setup for the T34 APV I can use a 2 channel, where as in my Tiger I used a 4 channel and made Servos into esc's to control Turret and gun elevation.
