Wing Detailing
This is what I did on a wing similar to a 4* 40's construction. I also had a nice job on the wing, covered in Cub Yellow Ultracote. I bought some "cheap" Towercoat red, and used it for the "RIB WIDTH" strips on the bottom. I did not go around the leading edge, but did go to the TE of the aileron. I used the Windex method. The Towercoke is much thinner than the sticky back stuff. I let it dry 12 to 24 hrs and then used a trim iron to seal ALL the edges. I also sealed the edges with clear Lustercote, sprayed into the cap, then brushed on the seams with a fine brush. The job turned out great, with a minimum of bubbles, and still looks great after a full season of flights.
Make sure your main covering is good and tight before adding the trim. ..... good luck...lownslo..
PS... keep an eye on the edges..... if they start to curl up... you may have to hit them with the trim iron sooner. Just don't get in too far, as you will create steam from the moisture still under the stripe.
