Hello.
Well, I was also concerned about this problem when I was building mine, but I discovered this distance is normal in a Yak.
At first, like underdw said, this is not bad, cause you get more air to flow to keep your engine cold. I even not use spinner in my Yak...
And, considering this Yak a semi-scale, take a look on this distance in a full scale plane. The pic is below...
